Mom and Lolly right as they see each other
Saturday

Today we are going to head to visit Aunt Lolly (mom’s sister) and her son, my cousin and his family. We were not going to leave the hotel until after 11 so mom and Sally wanted to sleep in. Not the sisters. We got up early had a quick breakfast and off on our adventure. Our first stop was the “Walk Across the Hudson”. It is an old railway bridge that has been converted into a pedestrian bridge. We didn’t have time to go completely across and back (would have been 3 miles total) but we did get out about ¼ of the way and made a few pictures. Our next stop was the Vanderbilt house. We drove thru the area and saw another one of their houses. Wow, they sure had money to have the Biltmore House, the Breakers and now this house. Their view of the Hudson River is wonderful.

We also passed by the FDR Library and then we tried to find the Morse House. We decided we might have needed Morse code to find it – we never did. After that we gas’d the van and then hit the bakery. We wanted to get

a pie and some pastries to take when we visit. On the way we hit EVERY stop light; it took us forever.

We then head back to the hotel to get mom and Sally and check out. Off to Doug’s house. On the way, Susan asked me to look for side trips via the app. The first one I see is Dia Beacon. Susan says, “there is supposed to be another lighthouse”. We convince ourselves it’s a light house and I switched it to map mode to get us there. We knew there was a light house somewhere around here but this wasn’t it. There was a jazz festival going on there and we drove thru the security. Susan asked the security “cop” where the lighthouse was. The cop just couldn’t help the smile and said well it’s a museum and not a light house. Back to the highway.

We arrive at Doug’s area 45 minutes early. So the app comes back on. We can go see “The Rock”. Pam asked what the name of the rock was and mom says “THE”. We head to The Rock. It actually does have a name, Glen Rock. It’s this big

rock that was moved by the glacier. We then head to Doug’s house. We tell them we just came from the rock and no one could believe we knew about it. I told them all about the trip advisor app.

The best part of this whole trip then happened. Mom and Lolly spotted each other. You should have seen the smiles and hugs. Knowing mom and Lolly were happy was the best feeling for all of us. Mom had not seen her sister for 10 years. I met Doug’s wife, Holly for the first time and his 3 kids. Susan and Pam and mom had been here before about 10 years ago for another cousins’ wedding, but I was unable to attend then as I was having surgery the next day. Mom and Lolly stayed inside where it was cooler. Most of the rest of us went outside to eat and talk. It was fun catching up with them. We stayed until a little after 5 and then headed to the hotel. Oh yea, Doug lives in New Jersey so that adds another state to the trip but not a new state for me.

On our “New England”

drive to the hotel, we could see Manhattan from parts of the highway and as we pulled into Connecticut, Susan sees the Long Island Sound and we try to find views by getting off the highway. Well, this part of Connecticut is mean. Everything is a private drive, you can’t go there, turn, you can’t go there…. Aargh. We get back on the highway and drive a little further. We then find a coastal highway, but again, no, everything is private. There was one public beach but you had to pay to park. I asked the attendant if I could just drive around the area (large parking lot) so mom could see the Sound. He gave us 5 minutes and said to honk on the way out so he would know not call the police. We used our 5 minutes and even got a picture of a lighthouse off the coast.

We then headed onto our hotel. Susan parked the car, Pam, Sally and I headed to the room. We are bad, we forgot mom. She was sitting in the lobby. I feel bad.

There was an OutBack right by the hotel so we check in and just

decide to go there for dinner since it was late. Sally said she was still full so it was just mom and the sisters.

After dinner, we came back and crashed.
