Well the rain has gone and it is now clear, sunny skies are predicted around lunchtime and we have a late checkout today of midday which is quite unusual. I’m going to try my best and not talk about food today. Yesterday we were in the car pretty much all day as we left Burlington around 9.00am and arrived here at 5.45pm with lots of stops so today we only have about 1.5 hours of driving time to undertake. It will be interesting to see how the wind and rain overnight has impacted on the foliage as we are now well and truly into the “fall” part of the season. Last night we made a decision to book a cruise on the Hudson River that leaves from the town of Kingston which used to be the ... read more

We travelled by train from New York's Grand Central Station to the small town of New Hamburg in the Hudson Valley. It was just under 2 hours and the scenery alongside the Hudson River was spectacular. Why New Hamburg? Well, our friends Art and Gillian live in nearby Wappinger Falls and they asked us to get ff the train there rather than in Poughkeepsie. It made life much easier and before long we were relaxing in their lovely house and meeting the grandchildren! We had a really nice time staying with them and our friendship blossomed. We had, after all, just met them briefly in Buenos Aires, but we knew back then that we would be seeing them again. When you invite us to come and stay, you'd better be expecting us because we WILL come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... read more

"Even if it would prove to be just once in my life, I was so lucky to have been granted the privilege of living simply and without clutter, free of the many artificial concern that flood our daily lives, and thus closer to the untouched truth. So much of our good natural instincts are smothered by society and many of our daily lives are directed by false goals, dictated to us by others. Even in this day and age, with our sophisticated technology and developed culture, it must still be important, just occasionally, to find a wild place, where the land and the animals that move through it speak the loudest, and the sun and the moon dictate the rhythm of our lives. Only through this can we remember our proper place in the order of ... read more

Made it through my first week at Laerdal!! I started my assignment by reading through the 2007 marketing plans for each of the product lines. Across the plans, there are some inconsistencies and gaps in the demographics information, so I'm doing research to fill in those gaps and create current, accurate demographic profiles of each of the target market segments. For example, I'm trying to find the number of hospitals (and the number of specific hospitals, i.e. acute care or pediatric), hospital ERs, EMS/Fire agencies, military bases and hospitals, American Heart Association and American Red Cross chapters, nursing homes, registered nurses, pediatricians, etc. It's not going too badly - I've been able to use a couple of databases of hospital and EMS demographics that Laerdal has purchased, and I found some figures online (but the online ... read more

Made it to New York. Left on Friday - my mom rode up with me, and we stopped in Hagerstown, MD to visit some family for the weekend. We reached the lovely town of Wappingers Falls, NY on Sunday afternoon (actually, the hotel is in Fishkill, NY - the office is about 15 minutes down the road in Wappingers Falls - both cities are very near Poughkeepsie, which is a little bigger). I'm interning with the company my dad works for (Laerdal Medical Corporation, a private Norwegian company), and we found out later that he has to be up here today and tomorrow for a meeting. So, he flew in yesterday, and my parents stayed down the hall in the same hotel. The hotel they put me up in for three weeks is really nice - ... read more
