Finished unpacking and had a long shower. Then we went out in search of breakfast. Didn’t have to look too far, there is a Fresh and Co just next door with a huge range of things to choose from. I ended up with a wholewheat bagel and peanut butter. Roy had blueberry pancakes. The coffee was weak, but hot.
After breakfast we came back to the hotel to regroup and plan our day. All signs of snow were gone, and the day was clear with blue skies. We decided it was the day for Empire State Building. We arrived there just after 9 and the lines were already building up nicely! I’d booked Express Pass tickets which meant that we just flashed them at the staff and were fast tracked through the various lines - one to buy tickets, one for security and one for the elevators. Before too long we were up on the 86th floor absolutely gobsmacked at the panoramic views of Manhattan and beyond.
Incredible. But very cold at certain corners of the observatory.
We then decided to walk up 5th Avenue to Central Park. Along the way we called into Barnes & Noble for a
coffee. It was Starbucks coffee, which I don’t really like, but at least it warmed us up a bit. And the bookshop was amazing. We took a slight detour to the Rockefeller Centre to look at the tree and the ice rink. It was heaving with people! We had a look in Saks (I bought some Lancome make up) and when we finally got to Central Park, only really touched the very bottom of it, to have a look at the ice rink. I took some photos which, when we got back to our room, realised are identical to the pictures of that ice rink on a make up bag I have with me!
Sandwiches for lunch, and then back over to 7th Avenue where we walked back to our hotel through Times Square, which we thought we’d seen last night, but it turns out we’d only seen a fraction of it! We found the ball, but we couldn’t see the MTV building. Well we probably did see it, but didn’t realise what it was.
En route back to the hotel we stopped for a coffee in Andrews and Roy got some cheesecake. I only had two forkfuls, honest!
Empire State Building
Looking downtown to lower Manhattan We tried to have a look in Macys but I have to say that it is so vast, just a walk in to the cosmetics department was daunting and we gave up and came out.
We did find our way into the Skecher shop, where we both bought trainers. We finally arrived back in to our room at about 5, and lazed around for a couple of hours before getting ready for dinner. It is so cold here that my eyes hurt, as they’ve been watering all day. My feet also hurt! Apart from that, I’m fine.
I got online in the hotel and so decided to look for somewhere close by for dinner. Unfortunately, the place we picked was closed tonight so we ended up with steak sandwich and fries in a bar/restaurant opposite. Not bad. Then we came home early. It is now about 10pm and Roy is asleep!
I've been complaining that over 24 hours into our trip, I still haven't had a decent cawfee!
I've managed to find a free wi-fi connection here, so decided to do some blogging as I go along. I love my new netbook!
