We had finally made our plane reservations to return to Tunisia and get back onboard Tsamaya. Now we had the deadline of April 15
th to have everything done that we wanted to (now how did we think that would ever be possible?) or at least to prioritize what “had to get done” before leaving.
One thing for sure was to make a trip out to our old stomping grounds to see friends. We had hoped to do it earlier but something always came up. We pulled a trip together quickly even if it was a shorter trip than we would have liked. We squeezed in as many people as we could see into the short time we were out in the Trumansburg area and we apologize to those that we didn’t make contact with this time. It is at times like these that we always are amazed at how quickly our time back in the US goes, but we were happy to see those that we did have a chance to spend a little time with. It got us to quite a few of our “regular haunts” by having a meal with a friend which is always a treat as
well. Bob was just getting into a shoe again, but still had to keep it elevated and iced so thankfully we were with close friends and could continue to keep to the regiment the Dr. wanted for his recovery. With going back to the boat soon we need to be sure that he is in shape for climbing back on board Tsamaya as well of course getting those 50 pound bags of luggage to the airport!
Unfortunately my Mom started to get sick and even though she went to the Dr. it quickly turned into pneumonia so into the hospital she went. She was there just a little under a week, but thankfully she has bounced back really well. Upon discharge they arranged for home visits from a nurse as well as a physical therapist and that has definitely been beneficial. We sure were glad that by the time we were leaving Mom was back up and around again so we had a chance to go out to dinner together. We even were able to squeeze in time to get together with some friends of both of ours. Mom used to be a “mall walker” and one of the
women she walked with is the mother of a friend that I had in high school. We had been trying to get together but our schedules and Mom’s health had gotten in the way. Fortunately during the last week we were back in the US the four of us had a lovely reunion over lunch. It was well overdue and so glad we were able to squeeze in the time.
With Bob being laid up with his foot he wasn’t able to get as many things done on the house as he had wanted, but at least the weather started to cooperate and I was able to do some outside work getting the branches picked up from the lawn, some raking of leaves that were still on the ground from last year and then both of us were able to organize some of the things that were outside in preparation for leaving. We also contacted our contractor that we had hoped would have built a back porch on last year but never got to it – definitely hoping this is the year that it will finally get done. Other fun things we fit in were our annual physicals and
dental exams.
Near the end it is time to organize once again with our neighbor that mows our lawn while we are away (also a big help to us Brian) and also arrange with a friend that takes care of Bob’s orchids (and this year a few more plants thrown in to the mix- thanks Lisa) At the last minute we even made time to go to see a lovely presentation of “Annie” at a nearby theatre, Hubbard Hall. We had been wanting to see something there and never took the time so when we saw this advertised we figured we’d give it a try. We sat next to parents of two of the kids that were in the production and they were so surprised to hear that we didn’t have any connection to any of the kids. We explained that Bob and I have supported HS drama/musical production for years and we still enjoy them! They did a great job with the show and the hall itself is an excellent venue that we will have to check out for future productions.
Then the dreaded chore of packing two suitcases and weighing them so they come in under
50 pounds! Each year we have a spreadsheet of things we want to pick up in the US to take back to the boat. We check off the items as we purchase them during our time here, but inevitably there are things at the last minute that we add to the list or figure “there seems to be plenty of room” so let’s just pick up some extra “whatever”!! Well, this time we were actually packed and ready to go with our 2 bags a day or two before leaving which is unheard of as we typically do that until at least midnight before our flight. Hopefully that is good sign and not just that we forgot something major. Time will tell…. On April 15
th we head to Tunisia ready or not!
