I get up late and am hanging about the RV store at 9.30 when I notice some other cyclists roll up, a tandem and a pannier laden bike. So I meet Hughes and Sue (on the tandem) and Paul, all beyond retirement age, one of them ten years ! They set off on the same day as me from San Diego and are on the same route, its amazing we have'nt met before. They overnighted in Hillsboro so have traveled some distance before arriving at the lake. We ride together to Las Cruces. A really pleasant journey through the Rio Grande valley. This area has a great variety of agriculture, Cotton, Pecan trees, Vines , other stuff but mainly chiles which are everywhere
The wind is not unkind being light and not directly against and after a tasty lunch in the pleasant town of Hatch we seem to glide through the valley towards our overnight stop in Las Cruces.
Hughes gets us a discount at Best Western and we have a very agreeable dinner, good food good company, mutual interests, what more can you ask for.
