I got him!
I got the indian (I'm sorry, Native American) on my Tootsie Pop wrapper! Actually, we kind of did take a left turn at Albuquerque. We're in Los Lunas at Stefanie's cousin's for the night. 😊
Before leaving the OKC hotel, we had make-your-own waffles in the hotel lobby, accompanied by the lovely sound of the desk lady hacking. Then she went out for another smoke. Good choice, honey.
We had a wild-goose chase for a car wash before we got started on our trip. It was fruitless, but at least we got to see the crap part of town. Yay!
Driving through Oklahoma during the day, we realized that the song from the musical is no lie. There really
is wind sweepin' down the plains. It blew our cars all over the place. AND tumbleweeds are real!!! ("Like Jesus," as a billboard in Missouri (I think) stated.) First mini tumblers came rolling across in front of our cars, then I saw a huge one go across. I may have giggled.
Who would have ever thought I'd be happy to get to Texas? Not I. But we were stoked to get out of Oklahoma. Texas wanted to immediately welcome us with its aroma, too. As soon as we hit the border, it smelled like
Turbines
These guys are taking advantage of the wind. cow. There are signs along the highway in Texas that say, "Don't mess with Texas - littering fine $400," but we didn't manage to capture one. There was also a sign threatening poachers.
An Ohio guy came racing up behind us in Texas. Those Ohioans love to jerk it up everywhere. Okay, not really. I guess he just passed us in a mostly polite way.
Texas was also home to the Jesus Christ Is Lord Travel Center. I don't know if you knew, but "Jesus Christ is Lord, not a swear word." That was plastered on the billboard. On the gas-station awning was a huge Bible verse. If it didn't come up so quickly, I could have gotten a picture.
Northern Texas and New Mexico remind me a lot of southern Spain. The geography is very similar. I just wanted to close my eyes and pretend I was in Spain, but I would have wrecked my car. Plus it would have defeated the purpose since I wouldn't have been able to see the sights anymore.
We finally got on 40 after OKC. Shout-out to my NC peeps! When we coasted into Albuquerque, there was a huge Kryptonite-looking sculpture
Rest stop
This is the crazy sink in our last OK rest stop. on a hillside, lighting up all different colors. Abq loves lights. Some of their bridges had colored lights shining on them.
Luckily my 8-gig iPod Nano is still keeping me entertained. I'm only about halfway through my songs, and we're about halfway through the trip. I discovered a few new songs that I didn't realize I had. Juanes was very fitting for driving through Texas, I think.
Our "Party in the USA" count is up to three for me, twice for Stefanie. It could be much higher.
Today's drive seemed really long. I think it's just the days adding up. The mere four hours from Las Vegas to L.A. is going to feel like an eternity. It was so nice to have an actual home to come to tonight, with a delicious dinner waiting. Now we're off to chat and then hit the hay. We've got to see some New Mexico sights tomorrow!
