October 5 Balloon fest Got up at 0330 to get ready for the balloon fest. As I prepared to go I kept on the local news on channel 7 to see if the launch was going on this morning. Finally the weatherman on the field said that he had talked to the officials and they said all events for this morning are cancelled account the rain. They waited till I got dressed and drank 2 cups of coffee before they did it. It's such a shame as I pushed hard on an over 1000 mile drive to get here for this morning's launch. Yesterday it rained the most in a single day that it has since Dec 2010!! They said if anyone wanted to come out anyway the vendors would be open and they were allowing ... read more

Wednesday 5 Oct Beautiful day in Albuquerque. Invested most of today on exploring the area around the Balloon Fiesta Park. It was so cool and enjoyable. It felt a little strange to be on that huge field all by myself. They will have the same show pretty much tomorrow morning and Friday morning so I will skip the morning show tomorrow morning and go to the evening show weather permitting. Then go to the morning and evening shows on Friday. And of course the big events will be Saturday and Sunday.... read more

Tuesday Oct 4 I slept from 11PM till I woke up at 0200. Then as I couldn't go back to sleep so just decided to drive on. I pushed it hard to get clear of El Paso before traffic got too bad and didn't stop except at rest area's for a quick pit stop till I got to Las Cruces, New Mexico just 225 miles south of Albuquerque. So I was in a good position to get to Albuquerque, get my rest, and be in position Wednesday morning at 0700 for the morning launch. : > D I stopped at the rest area north of Las Cruces to check it out as a possible overnight parking site for future reference. It was a very nice rest area and even had gravel at its covered picnic tables ... read more

Oct 03 Monday I guess the cooler weather in Texas was waiting for me to leave. I put in a long day. I drove to San Antonio and visited my sister Laura, and we ate at the Alamo Cafe on the West side of I-10 south of the Huebner exit. They give free flour tortillas with butter which is nice as their chips with salsa were stale and when I requested a different one it was stale as well. I got a beef burrito with seasoned Hamburger meat and it was OK. After eating, I took my sister to Wal Mart and then home because she had to be back to get her kid off the bus. Then I drove on to Junction and took a nap in the city park there beside the lake. It ... read more

We're coming Home! Whew. Been fun, but ready to make the treck home. Today we made a side trip to a Wild Animal Santuary, where all the animals were rescued. Black Bear, Cougars, Deer, Bobcat, Elks, Birds, Gazebos, etc. A nice 1/2 to 1 mile of walking the trails. We were ready for our Hotel room ... read more

Sunday Oct 2 It has been a very busy weekend. Yesterday I changed the plugs and a couple of plug wires on my truck. My brother in law Bill took off the shroud and looked for the oil leak. We finally identified the leak as coming from the Oil cooling hose that plugs into the radiator where the metal connection crimps onto the hose. No time to deal with it now as I am leaving Monday for the Albuquerque balloon fest . I will keep a close eye on it. I drove it around today a bit and it seems OK and Monday from Bryan to San Antonio I will have another chance to check it out...... then its westward across the desert and the mountains to the foothills of the Sandia Range in Albuquerque. I ... read more

October trip Doing homework on my October trip. I’m figuring on heading to Albuquerque for the balloon fest, and then a side trip to Montana. My registration was due next month but I took care of that already while I was here. It’s still too hot to be working outside or on my RV so I will save that work for when I get back. I’ve got some work to do on my truck before I go. I have an appointment next Thursday to get the headliner fixed and then after the first I will get 2 new front tires. I guess I will give my brother Danny the ones I have on the front now. Also I guess I will need to get the oil changed again as I put over 6000 miles on my ... read more

ALBUQUERQUE - August 21 - 27 August 21 Albuquerque – Sunday First thing I did today was go to the office of Suburban Extended Stay and paid up $281 for the week. Then I went to the Albuquerque Aquarium. It was much bigger and more impressive than the pitiful National Aquarium in DC. After visiting the Aquarium I went to the Botanical Gardens as well. I had bought a combo ticket for both for $7.00, a pretty good deal. The gardens were really nice and I was surprised by a large outdoors miniature train display. It was very large and not even talked about in the tourist info I had read. Next I visited the Museum of Natural History. I had a full day at that. I drove around exploring the city a bit and then ... read more

Drove 450 miles today from Gallup, New Mexico to Lubbuck, Texas. We had fun knowing we were driving the old Route 66 highway. There were lots of thunder storms throughout New Mexico - but we missed them all. I stopped at Central New Mexico Workforce Center in Albuquerque and met with Evelyn and Alicia. They are very interested in Boston Reed programs and will schedule a webinar for the first week of August to discuss further. Great opportunity - glad I stopped!... read more
