As the train system is in steady decline there is no train to Albuquerque, but our rail pass includes free connecting transport with Greyhound. The bus was like a crap school bus, no leg room, no curtains and it smelt funny. Not a patch on Mexican 1st and 2nd class coaches. I'm glad we are travelling by rail here!

Albuquerque was freezing. Not what we were used to so far on our trip. However we did find our cheapest and best motel so far, the Silver Moon Lodge located on the mythical Route 66, known as Central Avenue here.

We walked around the old town in the afternoon, fashioned with old pueblo buildings containing lots of overpriced tourist tat and the usual indian relics costing too much for the budget traveller.
