This was certainly a 36 hours to remember. Session 2 kids left, thank goodness...and camp was tidy by 1 pm. Then after a nap and shower, we headed out in a convoy of cars for a 40min drive to a bowling alley. The one game we had was amusing, with first time bowlers ending up on their back sides, throwing balls behind them, or not getting a score above 9! We then went alcohol shopping. Well, the over 21s did, the under 21s went to the supermarket to buy nibbles and mixers. The hotel was a Marriott with each room having a kitchenette and a very comfortable double bed. So, here is my first entry to let you guys know all about what is about to be the best summer ever! My flight was the usual long and boring event, which was taken up by watching Family Guy and The Simpsons (as usual!) We landed at JFK in New York, and had to wait for other people on other flights to arrive before we could head out to the accomodation...so 3 hours later, we were on our way! Once we had got our rooms sorted, 2 other guys and myself went out for a wonder around the streets of NYC. Now, we were told..and I remember from last year, that when you leave the accomodation, turn right, not left..as left leads you right into the centre of Harlem! Every trip starts before you actually leave. The three "p"'s of preparation, planning and packing are not as glamorous or eye-opening as the travels themselves, but they are equally important, if not more so, for the success of the trip! So, I am starting this blog from the beginning -- before I've actually left -- as I pack up to go. It is surprising both how much and how little one needs for a semester abroad. I am packing a remarkably small amount of clothing and school supplies for the trip (at least compared to what I normally take with me).
