Went to the Branch Brook Park to see the Cherry Blossoms. Its a huge park, nearly 360 acres at Newark. It is said that they have over 4000 Cherry Blossom trees, in more than fourteen different varieties. Their Annual Cherry Blossom Festival started on April 10th and runs for 2 weeks. The park was crowded, as it was a weekend. And it was a lovely day. With lots of sun and gentle breeze and these beautiful trees, it was a pleasure walking through the park. Though it wasnt as expected, but its worth a visit. ... read more

Today, the Bridge to Success Scholars visited Stone Mountain. It was an enjoyable day! First, we rode on "Ride the Ducks." These are military type vehicles that can be driven on land and on water. We were divided into two groups and took off on our adventure. We took a quick tour around Stone Mountain and then found our way to the lake area! Suddenly, our land vehicle turned into a boat and we took a lovely ride on the lake. Some of us were given opportunities to drive the boat. It was lots of fun! After the boat ride, we took a lift to the top of Stone Mountain. Some of us were not as anxious as others to take the ride to the top. NEVERTHELESS, the entire group climbed onto the tram and we ... read more

Seeing our students visit the Dr. MLK, Jr. Center for Nonviolence today was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. They were excited. We were excited. They were reflective, curious, and appreciative. Some students were unaware that we would be visiting the place where both Dr. King and his wife, Corretta Scott King are buried. They were in awe. Many photos were taken, while conversations about the past, present and future were shared. History became alive and we realized that we were in the midst of a living legacy, that being Dr. MLK, Jr. and the Civil Rights' Movement. ... read more

"Tomorrow is the day when idlers work, and fools reform." ~Edward Young So as my suitcases lay yet empty, I decided to write my first blog of the summer. As I always feel it is necessary to reflect on the past year, I find that my packing can wait a few more minutes. I was blessed this year to be moved to an incredible new school. At first, something new is always a bit of a challenge, but change is necessary when bordem sets in. I found myself revived again to teach ... not only by my "difficult" students but by all of the new teachers I met at School 23. I was amazed at their dedication, the new ideas, the team work, and the family I was soon to become a part of. To all ... read more

Although not a "typical" travel blog, I feel as if our reunion with the Sutherland Family warrants a blog. After many years of not seeing our cousins, Mark and Lewis, we met up with their families for lunch. Mark and Deena have two amazing children. Moriah, who is a an obvious actress and intellect with a personality that lights up the room. Drew is tall, dark and handsome and will make some girl very happy one day. Lewis and Cici also have two incredible children. Jessica, who should audition for America's Next Top Model and obviously has a heart of gold for her family. Nicolas, the little guy, is a comedian in the making. We were lucky to reaquaint ourselves with my cousins' aunts on the other side of the family ... Diane and Jeanie, friends ... read more
