Today we got up, had breakfast, then Karen and I headed out with Ed looking for a place to get into the river. The bank at our place was pretty steep and after all the rain there was a good bit more water.

We drove down our road, looked at all the houses and learned our road eventually was a dead end. We didn’t find one place to get in the river, which turned away from the road at one point.

We went out to the main road and found a bridge over the river which looked like you could get to the stream easily. Sadly it was posted no fishing, no swimming, no trespassing. However there was an old covered bridge which had been converted into a gift shop. We thought we’d go in the gift shop ask if there was a good fishing place nearby.

The person minding the shop was a young girl who “wasn’t a fisher” and “knew nothing about fishing” so she wasn’t much help. She did tell us a lot of info about the covered bridge. It was built in 1850 and carried traffic across the Saco River until 1939. It was sold to Mrs. Isabell Casinelli in 1965 who had the gift shop built inside. She also lived in the nearby home, which was turned into a Bed and Breakfast and is still operational today.

Once we decided Ed was better off fishing near our cabin, we went back. Karen was going to go to the stream with him. Terry and I were taking a little trip about an hour away to check out a sewing machine. I have two sewing machines and I don’t like either one of them. I found a machine just like my mothers Singer Touch and Sew. It looked to be in great condition, so we were going to try it out.

It was such a nice drive there except the first 10 miles. The GPS took us up and down a mountain on a road that made Sellers Road, at home, look like a freeway. It was called Hurricane Mountain Road. It was steep and winding and we met very few cars. We wondered what the next road would be. Terry thought the old farm road was wider!

We arrived right on schedule. The woman, Nancy, was such a delight to talk to. She was busy cooking soup to share with her neighbors. The machine worked great so it went in the Suburban to go home with us. In out conversing, Nancy asked where we were from..….”West Virginia” I said. She then asked if I knew of Ripley, WV. “It’s literally right down the road from us” I replied. Ripley is where her best friend lives…,small, small world!!

Once we returned we made dinner and relaxed on the deck with the sounds of the river in the background. It was a nice evening!!
