An early start today, on the road at 7:37am and planning to take the road west out of the park and then a nice straight road heading south. At least the map shows it as straight with a slight curve. In reality it was a windy tortuous road with multiple hairpin bends. Liam heaved about 3/4 of the way down this nasty road that ended up slowing us down an hour. However the route after that was fine, and after Visalia we were on the main roads with 70mph speed limits. Lunch in Mojave at a hamburger joint, then on to Las Vegas arriving 4pm.

It is hot! A shock from the chilly nights and warm afternoons. We park out back and pulled two of our suitcases quickly into the cool air conditioned atrium of the Excalibur. Then a walk past all the gaming tables to get to the hotel registration. Kind of like a flight check-in, complete with people sitting around with their luggage! The room is nice, spectacular view down to the New York and MGM resorts.

We drop our gear then spend a little while resting, boys finding the one kids channel on TV. We then go exploring. Very busy, large casino areas with lots of people around. We brave a short walk outside but retreat quickly - no need to suffer that heat! Level two has a few shops and restaurants. Liam plays with knights and unicorns in the toy shop while Ky finds a large gargoyle lamp that she's tempted to buy.

I had thought we'd head for the pool, but the boys decide against it, so instead we spend a little more time at the shops then get changed and have dinner at the all you can eat buffet. Kids are free, total $42.30 plus tip.

Buffets are interesting, this one quite well done with the usual dishes we'd expect to find as well as a mexican section beside the chinese section. They even have shrimp out here in the middle of the desert!
