ome on down the price is right
This is us at the price is right show, we are both very tired frm Jet Lag! Here is my first attempt at blogging and so am not sure how much detail to go into. I am keeping a journal too so that I can remember in a few years the things we have seen and done on our trip so I have decided to copy some of that here for you to see what we are up to.
Our first stop on this trip was Las Vegas we were there for 4 days here are my top 5 tips of things to do and top 5 things not to do in LV:
To do:
1. Learn to play craps, preferably join the dark side when doing so “don’t pass line” every time, the other players will hate you but you win more often. (caution see point 5 on things not to do) We didn’t go to this one but there are daily lessons at New York New York (where the roller coaster ride is great fun).
2. Try the buffet at the Wynn hotel on the weekend it seems expensive but it is really worth it with every kind of food imaginable from Sushi to roasted hams and the most amazing desserts all in individual mini
portions, at that was just at breakfast!
3. Play the 25c poker machines and if you put in $10 to play (which lasts for ages) you get free beers brought to you. You end up getting drunk and spending as much as you would have on the beer in the machine but it seems like it’s worth it
4. Soak up the strip and see all the free shows, some of my favourites are the Freemont experience (a bit out of the way but jump on the CAT bus and it really is worth it), the erupting volcano outside the Mirage hotel, the pirate ship battle outside Treasure Island hotel, The fountain show outside Bellagio and the talking statues in the Forum shops at Cesaers Palace
5. Don’t buy show tickets before you get to LV got the the ½ price ticket place and get all your tickets there, we loved “the price is right” where I was convinced Shenton would get called to “come on down” but in a way glad he didn’t as people were winning things like lawn mowers and fridge freezers and that may have gone against our whole travelling light concept. Also really enjoyed the
V variety show which has a small auditorium so you really fell part of the show (and they give you free drinks which also helps)
Not to do:
1. If asked as you are leaving a hotel “do you want free show tickets” just say no as there is always a catch. In our case we ended up spending nearly three hours being shown the Wyndam way to holiday travel (read time share). They were so good we nearly spent $10k. JUST DONT DO IT NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE, even the $25 in free chips wasn’t what it seemed!
2. Don’t feel you have to use the 20% off coupon you get for Cabo Wabo restaurant then end up eating crappy Mexican food which is definitely not spicy (Americans just don’t get this apart from at LA airport where the Spicy Chicken Pizza really was just that) and also be subjected to a crazy rock chick band who think they are teenagers but really are just too old to be wearing mini skirts and “rocking out”
3. Don’t go to the Jubilee Show, after watching Shenton enjoy 2 minutes of topless entertainment (this does last the whole show but only kept his attention for that long) you have to endure 1 ½ hours of what I can only describe as entertainment hell. We both fell asleep it was that good. This was also made doubly bad as these were the free tickets we got after enduring the hell of point 1 what not to do.
4. Don’t get up early to go to the Craps lesson at the Imperial Palace as they are not on anymore. Don’t go to the lesson at Bills Casino either as they don’t let you play yourself (even though that is what they say they offer) and you can’t hear what the bloke is saying as the piped in music is so loud in the Casino and to add insult to injury this is where we got roped into the Point 1 what not to do misery!
5. This last one is a cheat as it really is a “to do” but I can’t think of another not to do. That is do not pay for anything full price as there is always someone offering a discount or two for one deal, you just need to find them
So that was our fist destination in a nut shell, we didn’t lose our shirts gambling and Shenton even won playing Poker (against some professionals who were in LV for a competition) and also at Craps playing the dark side. The only problem was I lost about as much as he won.
