Nothing like good free desert! Thanks frat boys!! Well, well, well. We have been threatening to go to LAS VEGAS for a while now. I am a Vegas veteran and Nikkie is a Vegas virgin. We planned a trip with all our friends, but in the end only the Jaramillo's and the Polasek's made it.
Nikkie was giddy all the way, and what better way to introduce Nikkie to Vegas than the colorful cab drivers. On our way to NEW YORK, NEW YORK our cabbie played the Titanic soundtrack. He started asking us our favorites parts of the movie. So we name the scene and he forwards the soundtrack to the exact spot and as the music plays he "guides us" as to what everybody is doing at that exact moment in the movie. It was fabulous - but also very creapy, but what a way to one of the greatest Entertainment Capitals of the world!
I don't go to Vegas as much as I would like to. Vegas is just one of those places. There is so much to do, but on every trip you do the same thing - drink and gamble. No matter what intentions you have these are the 2 things you end
Luxor
Hmmm!!! The ladies posing!! up doing (for the girls there is a third category - shopping). We met up with our friends and had the intentions of "deflowering" Nikkie, the Vegas virgin. Off to place some bets and shots! We started off the trip with a bet on a dog race (she had no clue she was betting on Greyhounds) but she won a quick 30 bucks! We walked up the strip over to the Luxor through a couple hotels, for a Tacos and Tequila dinner (it was ok - you have so many other options in Vegas). The rest of the night we just gambled in our hotel (Nikkie did strike the beginners luck with a straight flush at 3-card poker).
The next morning we walked down the LAS VEGAS STRIP for breakfats at Boulangerie in Paris. It was pretty disappointing (I've had many better meals there). It is funny walking down the strip in the morning looking at everybody squinting at the sun trying to recover from too much drinking the previous night. The boys headed over to the BELLAGIO after breakfast for some all day drinking and sports gambling (and yes we were there all day long). The girls did
Vegas
Strip from the NYNY bridge! their thing and went shopping.
Saturday night we went all out. PRIME steakhouse in Bellagio was our destination. Oh and what a night it was. We got the seafood appetizer (we were full half-way through the appetizer). Then our entree arrived. The steaks were incredible and my sole was melting in my mouth (we had to take a short walk before the main course just to feel a little more comfortable). We had some pretty annoying people at the table next to us. So as a "comp" the restaurant gave us 3 deserts for which we did not have room (but we ate it since this is desert after all and who says no to free dessert). It was a night full of fun, laughter and incredible food (our bill was a mortgage payment - OUCH, but that's why they call it SIN CITY!). We headed straight for LAX nightclub in the Luxor. This wasn't our first choice, or the hottest club in Vegas, but if you ever have a connectoin in Vegas, Live it Up! And...big tip: when you party in Vegas do it right!. Get a table. Pitch in the money...so worth it! (99% of the time
Vegas
Good times!!! this is not possible because of monetary problems,) but this is still the way to go (another mortgage payment - DOUBLE OUCH). We danced till early in the morning and drank more than we could handle.
The walk back to the hotel was the next adventure. Stops for pictures with Carrot Top, popping dollars in the slots (winning some losing some), playing "war" in Excalibur, $500 bets on black-jack, and feeling still surprisingly well. Well, the real headache would come much later. Afterwards we figured out that we were all still pretty hammered the next morning so the hang-over did not set in until we walked over to In & Out Burger for lunch. In & Out Burger is a West Coast institution. Real, fresh food and a destination. Now I love that place, but I was not in the mood. The rest of the day was spend trying everything just to feel better. The flight back was like any other flight back from Vegas - horrible.
It was Vegas. We had an awesome time and for many more years will we tell stories about this trip. The trip was not about the books so really only 3 things to cross off - Bellagio and Las Vegas Strip. So 74 down and 3,248 to go.
