Hello!
This is the second installment coming to you from the USA. We are on a plane at the moment heading to Dallas Fort Worth in Texas….we were very close to missing the flight because there were 100’s of people in line to get through security and only 2 detector gates open - I freaked out a bit, but we made it - phew.
The last few days in Vegas have been impressive. We’ve done so much that we feel like we’ve been in the states for weeks already. Night one we got dressed up and checked out a few of the nearby casinos. We stayed at the TI (treasure island - that has been jazzed up and is heading away from the pirate theme to more of a ‘sexy siren’ theme). We had a tepinyaki (sp?) meal in a Japanese restaurant and met a few folk, then strolled around a heap of bars in the various casinos. Didn’t get many free drinks as Kent said we would because we weren’t out on the gaming floor- bugger. The second night we went to see Tom Jones - it was fantastic. The lights and show were stunning and he found every note
as strong as always. The funniest thing were all these middle aged women throwing their knickers and bras at him - there were about 9 pairs up on the stage in the end….he had to keep dodging them when he danced around!!! After the show we went to one of Kent’s favourite places in the states - Hooters casino where all the chicks have tight white tops over their fake boobs and little orange shorts on - bloody funny.
On wed we got up early and went on a plane tour over the grand canyon. It nearly got cancelled due to bad weather (snow), but we managed to get up in the air. Once we did though, it got rough, it was a tiny plane with no loo and we were looking at an 1 ½ flight. Kent got sick almost immediately and started throwing up in his sick bag for the rest of the flight - poor bugger. I even felt sick and panicked that I couldn’t get off quick. The scenery was amazing, but the experience was hellish. Once we landed we then had to catch a bus which again roughed Kent up….we ended up back at TI
and he slept for a few hours….later on we went out again (about 11pm - we became nocturnal because you can in Vegas) and went to the Stratosphere. The Stratosphere is this huge viewing tower with incredible views of all of Vegas. Right up the top are a few over the top rides that hang off the structure. There’s a spinning ride that dangles you over the drop below and a roller coaster thing that makes out to fling you off the edge. Kent nearly threw up looking at them, but they would have been brilliant and bloody scary!! We then headed into the old town where the old casinos still remain - tiny in comparison to the strip but full of character. I tried my hand at black jack with heaps of help from the other players at the table...it was great and I did ok for a while. We then checked out a ‘gentlemen’s club’ called Scores, which was pretty sleek. About 4.30am we got back to TI and had a couple more before bed.
Got up about lunchtime Thurs with a mission to do some shopping - since we’ve been slack about buying anyone gifts!! Checked out
a supermarket first for us and had a great time looking at everything different on the shelves. All their food is so processed! The ham looks like spam, the eggs are as white as milk - like they’ve been bleached, everything has extra sugar added to it and there was a chest freezer 30 metres long full of frozen pizza (that bit was good!) Went to a huge shopping mall after that and go some clothes and pressies - Kent was drawn to the Nascar shop of course, so they did well out of us. He’s just down now because the Nascars are on in Vegas this weekend and we’ve left - we wouldn’t have got tickets anyway, so he’ll just have to wait for the drags in Gainesville Florida.
Now we’re off to Texas as I said and looking forward to going to Billy Bobs the biggest honky tonk bar in the world (has an indoor rodeo, boot scooting etc) - the accents will be amazing, bring on the drawl!!
Got some more photos for you guys - cars Kent loves, happy Kent in Hooters, the strip’s lights etc.
Take it easy for now.
Ciao from us,
Love Ails
& Kent
xxxxxxxxxx
