Pirate Show
Treasure Island We slept in until 1000 and went to Binions for breakfast. I saw three of the group from the tournament playing again in the 1000 No Limit game - so at least I can say that my competition yesterday played a bit.
We took some photos of Fremont Street then caught the bus back to the NASCAR Café on the north end of the Sahara Casino and bought a day pass for ‘Speed’ the ride. Speed is a rollercoaster that starts inside the café area and shoots - very, very quickly - around a left hander, around a loop and up a high tower at the Sahara. It then does the whole thing backwards. We rode four or five times and then had a go on the NASCAR simulator. This was 8 linked cars - full size cars - with a simulation of Las Vegas Motor Speedway. You got in the car and drove the track. If you crashed you had to go into the pits for repairs. My initial thoughts that flooring it and turning left turned out to be quite off the mark and I spun four times in six laps.
We caught the monorail to Paris
to walk to the Hard Rock Hotel. I had visited the Hard Rock on a previous trip and remembered a Nirvana display that I was keen to see again. Unfortunately the map was not to scale and we ended up walking a couple of miles to get there. The Nirvana tribute was still there as well as the Stones / Beatles / RHCP etc etc etc. I won $6 on video Blackjack that was spent on the cab ride back to the Strip.
Next stop was an outlet mall a couple of miles south of Las Vegas. It had around 50 shops - all offering labels at discount prices. Jo bought a pair of kids sized Levis for Cole and I bought a Vans Warped Tour ‘94’ T-shirt for $10.
It was now dark and we had plenty to do before ‘leaving Las Vegas’ so we caught a bus to the MGM then the monorail to Sahara to have a couple more rides on Speed until they closed. We jumped back on the monorail to Paris to catch the pirate show at Treasure Island. It is a sidewalk show complete with fire, cannons and even a full sized
sinking pirate ship. Next stop was the Bellagio where we watched two water shows in the lake out the front.
After a 15 minute wait the Deuce bus finally showed up and we were off to the Luxor - one of the few casinos on the Strip we were yet to visit. The Luxor is an Egyptian themed casino housed in a huge glass pyramid with a Sphinx replica out front. The pyramid has a bright light shooting out of the top of it that can be seen throughout Las Vegas. Amongst our discoveries there was that they ran a series of $60 buy in no limit hold’em freeze out tournaments. We had spent four days trying to find a low buy-in freeze out tourney and finally found one when it was too late!
We stopped in at the Excalibur for a quick breakfast (@ 0300). Jo ordered a nachos appetiser that would have been more than sufficient for both of us and the three pissed Yankees at the table next door. The final stop on the Strip was back into New York New York for a few last photos before we took the Deuce back to downtown.
Jo went to bed at 0400 and I took a few night shots of downtown before retiring at 0500.
