The Vegas
The Vegas! (my camera is a bit crap at night I'm afriad) THE VEGAS!!!!!!!
Got in and even tho I had a hostel booking, went with Patrick to look for booking into a hotel as we was meeting the same crew from Austin in Vegas but they didn't have accom as the hostel was full. Booked into a hotel room but it was crap so I decided just to go to the hostel, turned out good as the hostel had some free space so our friends got to stay there.
Went out and half a 3 course meal at Denny's, it wasn't bad, then out to gamble! I know that gambling is legal in Nevada and not in other states so I guess they do have to take advantage but really its ridiculous!!! They have gaming machines in petrol stations, casinos tagged on to resturants and the casino's/hotels are huge!!!! We toured a few casino's including Caasino Royale, Hurrah, O'Sheas, Ceasers Palace, Mirage and Golden Nugget. I guess your wondering if I won - no I didn't!!! I didn't get the slot machines at all so paid a dollar for one and won 80cents... then came craps, which is easy if you stick to just betting on if they will get
The spirit lives on...
Sigfred and Roy...and the Tiger the attacked them. a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 but the game I played was $10 minimum bet, so I got $20 worth of chips and got up to about $60 before losing it back to my original stake. In the other casino's I had no luck on slot machines and craps I eventually lost all the money on but I did get to shoot a game of it i.e role the dice so that was cool. I also played blackjack but you gotta be technical with it and tap the tablel in a certain way if you want a hit, so after 1 win and one loss with $10 minimum bet I quit that. I later did a wheel thing, bet a dollar on what it will land on with different odds. I had 10-1 on landing on a 10 and I was SO close to winning, it was on the 10 then just skipped over. I was gutted.
Ceasers Palace by the way, is incredibly huge, so opulent its unbelivable. So easy to get lost but thats how they are designed.
Next day after a sleep in, went out int he day with the others to a large
The 'Sky'
A sky indoors, it was impressive. shopping complex that was typically Vegas style huge. It had its own sky and even had a 'storm' that went off at intervals that was very impressive - raining inside? Come on, you would be impressed to. Had another sizable lunch and wnadered around then went for a few drinks before heading out and seeing some of the friends I had made off to their bus. We were supposed to meet in Mexico on the 3rd...well lets just say that they are there today and are leaving on the 3rd form there and I can't get there in time...grrrrr.
Later that night I went out to get some pics of the strip and see some free shows. Didn't see any professional ones I'm afriad - Celine Dion was playing but I didn't fancy that. I saw the Volcano on water which was really cool and the Treasure Island - Sounds of Sirens show which was incredible good, especially since it was free. Its outside this hotel/casino and they have this big set with 2 ships and they sing and fight each other and swim and one of the ships actually sinks plus huge firey explosions that you can feel.
Wedding chapel!!
Right across from where I was staying, Elvis themed I believe. It was well worth seeing. I then caught a bus to see what was down at the end of the strip but once you get past the MGM there is nothing. I ended up going all the way out to the airport and then came straight back!! I was tired and didn't wanna lose anymore money so called it a day at 2am.
Next day I caught the bus to San Diego to stay with a friend, the guy that gave me a lift from Nashville to New Orleans. The drive over was pretty spectacular. The mountains and desert don't sound appealling but it really was beautiful and felt really american. There was a guy on the bus, he had some stories. He liked my accent, reckoned if I went with him to his neighbourhood and went on a night out I would have 50 girls a night just coz they don't get foreigners out there. No I didn't go with him! He was a golden gloves boxer, a pimp and pulled many pranks plus fought his brother in his house smashing through doors until his mother came out and threatened to shoot them both unless they stopped and
Inside the mall
Whiterose ain't like this.. got her a new door. Yup the greyhound has all kinds of characters on it.
We almost had a 2 hour unscheduled layover in San Bernadino for no reason, driver randomly announces we aren't leaving till 6:30 at like 5pm after he had already been there 20 mins but it didn't happen and we got into San Diego ahead of the original scheduled time I think which was pretty cool.
Next blog is San Diego!
