Today had its ups and downs excitement wise. It all kicked off with a tour of a new development on the strip - the one that Chelle mentioned in the previous blog. It was one of those standard scams where they give you a dinner, or in our case, cheap tickets to a show. All you have to do is struggle through a tour and a sales pitch to purchase part of an apartment (Time Share) - a sphincter says what?
The start of the tour went all right, with a bit of a sales push, but the sales person wasn’t too pushy. Then the manager came over for a go, and we managed to brush him off after 15mins. We then thought it was all over (three hours after leaving the hotel!) To our surprise we had one more pit stop, where this German chick had a crack at squeezing some cash out of us (from $3-4K upfront down to $0 upfront - higher interest rates of course!) She even gave the hard sell pitch that she wasn’t doing her job because we didn’t buy, and that she would lose her job because of us… poor bugger!! She
needs a new job, so I figured we helped her out, contrary to her ranting!
The day brightened up when we finally finished the tour and were dropped back at the hotel, with our discounted Cirque tickets 😊 They usually sell for over a hundred bucks each, but thanks to our blood, sweat and tears, we got them for just $35 each! After a quick pitstop in our room, we caught the Deuce down the strip to a place that sells half price tickets to all the shows here...you just have to buy them on the day of the show. They had over 100 to choose from, including Mamma Mia and American Allstars, but we settled on a show that had a bit of everything - comedy, singing and some topless girls - I didn't mind 😊 Plus it was on at our hotel - so it was convenient.
We kept on walking down the Boulevard, taking in the different sights, including the MGM lions, M n M World, the Harley Davidson Cafe and the Bellagio. It is crazy how much is going on here...and everything is done to the extreme! I also liked the look of the
rollercoaster at New York New York, but am saving myself for the rides at the Stratosphere.
Chelle had been talking about getting some dresses that were a bit cooler than her all black attire, so we then caught another bus down to an outlet mall, and she shopped around, and found two dresses. This trip has been pretty good spending wise and she has kept the clothes budget to a minimum. It was back to our hotel room, and the buffet dinner.
The buffets here are HUGE!! For $20 bucks you get to eat as much as you can, from a variety of different foods...Mexican, Chinese, Italian...there was too much to try in one sitting. We also had vouchers so we got a discount on the price - good stuff! After a quick rest at our hotel room, and changing for the show, we headed down for a quick stab at gambling. We managed to win $40 on a Poker machine (actually plays poker and you win depending on your hand… pretty cool!) Then, when Chelle ducked out to the toilet, I threw $20 into a standard pokies machine. It threw $400 straight back at me. A SPHINCTER
SAYS WHAT!! We decided to call it quits while we were ahead - I have a photo of the winning ticket to prove it.
It is amazing how much cash has been thrown into these joints. Although most things are fake (fake carvings, fake marble, fake grass) it is done on a huge scale and full of detail. It was a shame the show wasn't done on the same scale as everything else in this place. We watched as 8 girls strutted their stuff around a very small stage, and couldn't believe some of the audience members. Considering Chelle had a last minute panic about being the only female in the audience - we were surrounded by other couples, and grannies in wheelchairs...everyone was there! The show was a bit lame, but it was a good waste of time - if you get my drift. Trying to keep this PG people!
The show finished around midnight, so it was another late one...they all seem to be in Vegas. Tomorrow is the helicopter flight to the canyon. Can't wait!!
