Back from Vegas baby. Had a very nice weekend with the family. We were able to hit most of the sites you can hit with a 6 year old. Did A LOT of walking. Was very comfortable outside so enjoyed all the walking.
We stayed at the Monte Carlo which was a very good location on the Strip for getting around. Even more so than New York, Las Vegas is a city that begs to be seen at night. Spectacular lighting systems and shows, the city is truly at its prettiest at night.
We arrived on Friday early afternoon and immediately headed out. We went over to the Rain Forest Cafe to grab some food and check out its atmosphere. Great for kids. Then, we went and spent a little time in the M&M Store snapping some pictures with the M&M mascots and of Elliot Sadler's car for the NASCAR fans in the family. By that time, it was dark so we headed out walking a little down the strip. Snapped some pictures along the way and watched the amazing fountain show at the Bellagio. I loved that. As my family knows, I love waterfalls so seeing the water
show combined with classical music was wonderful. Then, we grabbed a cab and headed to the old downtown and Fremont Street to watch their canopy light show. What they can do with lights is outstanding. Got some pictures with the Christmas tree and just enjoyed walking around on the Street. It was a great "Experience" as they call it. Since we had quite a few in our party, we were able to afford a cheap limo ride back to our hotel which was the first limo to be enjoyed by my little nephew. It had been a very early morning and long day with the time change so most of us headed back to the hotel to grab some sleep and get ready for the next day.
On Saturday, we walked down to the Luxor and to Mandalay Bay, the farthest hotel on that side of the Strip. I was anxious to see the Mandalay Bay aquarium. The aquarium was very nice and gave us the opportunity to tickle the sting rays in a small tank. After that, we headed over to Hard Rock for lunch and for me to get my obligatory pin and glass. Then, we went
and viewed some of the casinos on the other side of the Strip. Went and walked around the Venetian which was very beautiful. Probably my favorite in Vegas. At this point of my life, I hadn't been to Venice, Italy yet but looking back after having now been there, they did a good job remaking the canal area. The ceilings in the Venetian are worth the trip alone. We also walked around the Bellagio and Mirage and caught Mirage volcano show and its Christmas Tree. The Mirage was one of the casinos that I had actually been to before unlike the Mandalay Bay and Venetian which were built since my last trip.
On Sunday, we headed over to MGM and spent several hours enjoying all the games at GameWorks. I, once again, beat the boys at the basketball shooting contest. I still got it. Great activity place for all. Walked through the New York hotel as well. I then went back over to the Venetian with my sisters who had not seen it the day before so they could see. I was very willing to go again since it had become my favorite. While we were there, one of
Bellagio
If only George Clooney was with me. my sisters was excited to see Wolfgang Puck signing books since she was a huge fan of the Food Network. That made her day. That night, we went to the Excalibur and caught their Tournament of Kings Show which was a good meal and show for both adults and kids. After that, some of the adults headed out to hit the clubs on our last night while we made way to the Stratosphere to see the Las Vegas view from above. Great to see. Unfortunately, these were the days when I had my first digital camera which wasn't that good. (I upgraded after this trip to a much, much better digital camera that I still use today.) So, pictures didn't turn out that great.
It's amazing how much Vegas grows each time I go there. This was my first trip to Vegas in probably about 6-7 years and it had expanded incredibly in that time. Brand new casinos everywhere and it's also become much more family friendly than what I remembered. It's a wonderfule weekend getaway. Look forward to going back!
(Yes, it's much past the date of when I went on this trip, but luckily I keep
journals! With that, am going back and adding this to my travel blog.)
