I've been a bit slack with keeping everyone updated on our whereabouts so here is the much awaited for update.
We left our hosts Jan & Bob's house on Tuesday last week and made our way to Vegas. We hadn't managed to get the tow hitch done while we were there so Russ drove the motorhome and I left about an hour later and drove the Durango. I left at about 5pm so I hit a bit of traffic heading out of the city but it was smooth sailing all the way to Vegas after that. I really enjoyed the scenery this time as it was dusk and the colours in the sky were just beautiful. Russ said that he was getting buses passing him going up the hills but he was still beating the trucks (something he seemed quite happy about). I managed to catch up with him right on the California/Nevada border.
We have settled into the KOA Campgrounds beside Circus Circus. It's a bit expensive so tonight is our last night here. The weather has been absolutely terrible, way hotter then when we were here a week or so before. The news is saying that it
is 10 degrees hotter then it usually is at this time of year. It has cooled down considerably today though and there is an actual breeze happening which is a pleasant relief, especially as our RV is surrounded by bitumen. Our air conditioning is a god send though and has been on pretty much non stop since we've been here.
Russ has entered a few poker tournaments since being here and has come 8/40 and last night he came 21/70 or so. I think he's been in another one but I can't remember those details.
After we check out tomorrow we are heading to Arizona so will then be 16 hours behind you Aussies as we enter the Mountain Time Zone. I'm just not happy enough to stay here in Vegas. I love, love, love the strip but the rest is blah. Russ went to the servo last night to get us some odds and ends and he said that he had 2 crack heads fighting over who was going to sell crack to him and as he drove off the lady yelled out, "You know where I am if you change your mind". Now, I know that
can happen anywhere but I probably would have been a bit freaked out if that was me. It's also frustrating when you are sitting at lights and people come up and wave a sign in your face demanding money. We had one guy doing a dance in front of us the other day until another car pulled up behind us.
We plan on seeing Hoover Dam/Lake Mead on our way out and then for the big one itself, the Grand Canyon! I'm not too certain on where we'll end up in Arizona but it's most likely going to Flagstaff for a little bit and then maybe down to Phoenix. We really only made the decision today as it's either move to another Camping ground or move out of the state. Russ has assured me that he does not mind leaving Vegas as we all know how much he loves his poker. The boy is out trying to find someone to do this tow hitch for us as I type this email so we don't have to drive 2 seperate vehicles again.
We both plan on getting jobs in Arizona and hopefully they shouldn't be too hard to come
by now that I've found some 'work' shoes that I can go to interviews in etc. I'm kicking myself for not bring over my good ol' trusty boots. There's a lot of things I wish I'd brought over as I just can't find good substitutes for here, my hair is dry and yucky at the moment so I'm thinking of getting it chopped once I buy a hairdryer or straightener. Russ is happy about that as he prefers me with short hair but I'm not going as short as I went in '04, no way!
Well, that is about all for now. There's lots of other little things but they can wait for another email. Hope all is well for everyone and I shall write again once we get to Arizona.
Here are some piccies to brighten up the email. We will be going out again tonight and will take some more piccies so you might get another one with just photos in the next day or so. There is one in there of Russ and what I call, 'The Dr Pepper Incident' (Russ loves Dr Pepper by the way, it is his substitute for Jacaranda Iced Coffee, he goes through the stuff like there is no tomorrow). Russ had put a can of Dr Pepper in the freezer to cool it down but forgot about it and when I commented on how cold my drink was that had been in the fridge he realised what would have happened to his Dr Pepper. He is giving me the finger in the pic cos I just had to take a photo of it.
