It's that time of year again when the creative people of the world gather together in Black Rock City. We all take time out of our lives to put in the work of making sure we have enough food, water and crazy costumes to get us through the week. A massive stream of convergance happening left and right. This year we decided to have a pre burningman trip in Bishop to try our some bouldering at the Happys, it was a nice way to break up the drive and we got some sweet photos along the way. Fast forward to the next afternoon sitting in line patiently waiting to get into burning man...then all of a sudden, lightning in the distance and rain rain rain...all cars were stopped. At first this was frustrating, but all annoyances disappeared when a massive double (almost triple..oh my god) rainbow appeared from one end of the desert to the other. Incredible. Shortly after that we were in and darkness was approaching..we had to find our camp. We joined the Prometheatrics this year. Everyone in this crew has an awesome creative talent be it spinning poi, contact juggling, photography..you name it, very inspiring.
The first
few days were a bit odd for me. I had a hard time taking everything in, being that it was my second time it didn't seem quite as magical, I was beginning to get worried I wouldn't have any unique experiences this year.. but all of that changed when we saw people Zorbing in the middle of the Playa. Now, being one who gets motion sickness this seemed like something I should stay away from at all costs, but after a lot of convincing I did it..and it was great. Unique experience #1
Because it had rained the playa was perfect, no dust storms appeared for quite a few days, that gave us time to explore. We had pancakes every morning, visited center camp to spin poi, participated in Caopera lessons, learned a routine on aerial hoop, climbed a few questionable structures, asked for unique flavors from the YUM booth and made a few new cool friends along the way and the week wasn't even over yet.
Mid way through the week we ran into quite a few friends (which is crazy given the amount of people on the Playa). We decided to show some of them the
giant play ground at Nexus. While we were there someone was doing aerial silks (something i've been wanting to try for a while now) after she was done I went up and talked to her and she ended up giving us an hour lesson, it was incredible..i'm hooked!
After that we went back to camp and participated in what the Prometheatrics had to offer...the rebirthing net. Brad and I ran the rebirthing net for an afternoon coaxing people to climb in and wiggle through something that doesn't seem possible to fit into...it was pretty fun.
The final days the dust started picking up right when things were being blown up, it was incredibly fun to not be able to see further than 1 arms length in front of your face. Over all another good year of crazy wild desert fun.
