... read more

When I spend a day somewhere like Yellowstone, I have to wonder how ANYONE can question that there is a god. That place is amazing! I never imagined what it would be like. There aren't enough pictures in the world to make anyone really grasp the beauty that it Yellowstone, but I sure tried!! We left Idaho Falls yesterday morning, as early as we could, but not insanely early, and headed to Yellowstone. We stopped in the town of West Yellowstone and rented the neatest thing! It was a GPS tour guide! For a one day trip in the park, it was PRICELESS! We never would have learned what we did, or even known what we were looking at without it. It was like having a tour guide in the car with us! His voice was ... read more

Firstly, yesterday's blog has been updated with photos. That being said, we made it today into Billings, Montana. It was about a 715 mile drive from Alexandria, Minnesota this morning. Most of the drive was flat farmland throgh North Dakota, much like we had seen for the past two days. Once we near the last 30 miles of North Dakota and into Montana the landscape started to look a little nicer. There were rolling hills, some interesting looking rock formations, and still a whole lot of nothing. We still haven't turned the radio on and we gained another hour today so we got into our motel pretty early, around 7:15ish. Tomorrow we finish our drive through Montana and into Glacier National Park.... read more

Fredrick Billings - founder of Billings, MT The picture is taken in front of the Western Heritage Center. I went on a ghost tour this past week and found out it is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in Billings. Billings was founded by Fredrick Billings in the 19th century. Billings was a railroad stop that grew. The yard is not as big as it once was and other industries have grown up here. We are the largest city in Montana with about 100,000 people here. The area is still growing, despite the economic downturn in the rest of the country. We are the medical hub for the eastern end of the state. Because of the sparse population it is not unheard of to have to travel long distances to get to a ... read more

Chief Plenty Coups lead the Crow tribe into the 20th century. He had a trading post in his two story home. The home has been well preserved and lovingly cared for. I can't imagine how hard that must have been. All change is difficult! And this was no small change for him to lead his people into. The town of Pryor is small. As I drove through it I was amazed at how much fun it would have been to grow up there. There were boys out riding their horses or bikes. The freedoms they have are far greater than what you find in 'civilized' places. I find such places far more civilized that what others do. They know that if they try to get away with something - Mom is going to find out, because ... read more

We managed to get around and see a lot of Yellowstone by car today. After a rough nights sleep (it gets very cold here even in height of summer) we got up early and managed to see Old Faithful which was a great experience. I would strongly recommend to people that going early you will obviously get a better photo but also beat the crowd which can hit to a big amount in the peak season. After going for a big trek up an overlook we bumped into a Canadian guy who said he had spotted three black bears and there bigger cousin a Brown in the past two days on his trek. We set out in hope and apprehension to a certain degree that we will get to spot a bear. Unfortunately there was no ... read more

Billings - Ghost Cave Ghost Cave This was taken looking from one cave to the next. I was standing near the cave with most of the pictures and looking towards the Ghost Cave. Costs List of costs to get in. I took a picture of the sign in order to make sure I got it right. Picnic area There is a picnic area with a tepee in the center that kids can go in. Ghost Cave Here is another shot of the Ghost Cave. They have excavated quite a bit from this cave in the order of artifacts. They will be opening a new interpretive center in mid July 2009. As my son and I were leaving the Ghost Cave I turned around to see him starting to step over a snake. I did not have ... read more

After a few days on the road and trips through towns in the Rockies such as Aspen we are now set up for a couple of days at Yellowstone national park. The journey was one of the most amazing I have ever experienced, the Rockies is a must see for anyone who truly admires nature. You could easily spend a whole month in the mountains and only scratch the surface. The stop off point for us was a day in Salt Lake City which was a interesting experience. I would certainly not classify the city a a great point of interest (would actually call it dull) but the national park to the west called Antelope Island is truly a spectacle for anyone to see. The drive up through Utah was amazing and a great experience where ... read more

DAY ONE Today was day one for a group of Evangel Assembly of God motorcycle riders from Bismarck, ND and what a day it was. However, before I go into detail let me tell you about the group. Some may have called this the "Wild Hogs" adventure of some older than average motorcycel riders trying to take back their youth! Well yeah because one does not get younger and needs to ride whenever you can! Especially if you live in North Dakota and the riding season is short. Coming along on the first Annual EAG ride were: Roger and Edie Will, Bruce and Sharon Walth, Jim and Peggy Harms, Jon Patch and his daughter Taylor, Forrest Ecklund, Jeff Roper and Rob Keller (me). Now the average age may be in the 50s however, Taylor Patch (an ... read more

Each trip has ups and downs. Leaving Yellowstone, we were on quite a high (pun intended, our elevation at camp was 7700ft) heading towards Glacier National. We had seen much wildlife, and had a great hike. Both of us were excited about Glacier thinking it would be even more impressive, less populated, and more dramatic in the scenery. We were a little unsure of the weather however, as it was already cold at Yellowstone and not sure how much colder Glacier would be. The drive was fairly unremarkable (8hours of sameness) until you reach Browning, MT. Now Browning, MT is either in the outside and very close to the Blackfeet reservation or in the reservation (signs were unclear). Most tourists will miss this town on the approach because the bigger highway skips it. We, trying to ... read more
