We woke up a little later than usual, but had to be out the door by 10:15 to make it to the University of Montana for Rex's campus tour. We found our parking lot and building we needed to find pretty easily. The tour was an hour long and they took us through several buildings, a huge lecture hall, the student life center, the athletics building and gym, the outdoor equipment rental area (very cool) and through beautiful grounds throughout. After they bought us lunch in the "Zoo" as they call it (their all you can eat student cafeteria). The food was great they even had gluten free and vegan choices. Ryan even got to enjoy a fudgcicle for dessert. We then met with an advisor in the Wildlife Biology Department and the Music Department. We got lots of great information and they were all super nice and helpful!
After, we sought out this ice cream shop that we'd seen yesterday called Big Dipper Ice cream. There was a huge line outside which was a great indication and the sign said "homemade". They had lots of flavors to choose from and the boys and Jeff all got white mint Oreo
and I got the famous "huckleberry" flavor. Pretty good, but boy were we stuffed after!
We then headed to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Visitors Center. Wow was that awesome and beautiful. They really emphasized what Jeff has always believed is that "hunting is conservation". We got to see some gorgeous trophy elk and displays of lots of other wildlife that are being conserved through their efforts.
We the headed back to the campsite to let Roxy out (when we got back she was sprawled out on our bed :/). After a few hours Ryan kept pestering us to go for a bike ride so we loaded up the bikes to go back into Missoula to ride this 7 mile bike path that runs along the Madison River. We sure wish Temecula had bike paths like this and like so many that we experience in other parts of the country! We rode until 8:45pm and the sun was still high! And there was so many people out and about exercising and walking...we loved it. There was also a kind of folk festival at a park along the river. We came across a large group of young people
who were dressed like hippies and appeared to be under some influences. It kind of scared the boys, but then I was able to remind them (God clearly spoke to my heart on this) that most of Calvary Chapel's pastors were at one time hippies in Orange County and Pastor Chuck & Kay loved on them and showed them who Jesus was and as a result we now have soooo many wonderful pastors of Calvary Chapel churches around the world! I told the boys you could have two reactions to this group if people, you could be scared and run away from them (what Satan would want them to do) or you could look at this as a "mission field" to show them how much Jesus loves them (what God would want them to do)...some thing for my boys to think about when they are off and have flown from the nest.
We made it back to the campground and began getting things ready to move on to our next destination in the morning - Glacier National Park!
