Back in the states…
I am back! What an interesting transition that has been. While I was off on my trip, many things happened. There was a death in the family. My father had a pretty serious stroke, which no one told me about. My middle child had a freak accident. We were certainly blessed it was not worse. All this to say, that leaving your reality, for a month, things still happen!
I know that my friends and family protected me from a lot of these situations, knowing that it would have made it extremely difficult for me, being away. For that, I am forever grateful. I hated learning about all that they went through while I was gone. However, everyone did their best and supported me every step of the way. For that I owe them the world!
I am so excited to be back home. At the same time, I truly believe that I was not sent there to see the suffering and do nothing. I was sent there to help, even, if it is just one person, that is my mission. I was talking to a dear friend who pledged me her energy and spirit to help me do “something”. She said to me" You are on this path for a reason and you need to follow it through. Don't worry, there are many that will support you along the way".
This means the world, not just to me, but to all those that are waiting for someone to do something! For all those that looked at this stranger and hoped that I could help feed their hungry children, or care for their sick and dying, or help their eager minded children get an education; I will try to do something.
I know that I have many responsiblies here and that will always have it’s place. However, I want to make a half of drop of difference in the world, not just for them, but for my children. I want my children to look at the world as one family that we all must care for, nurture and give too.
Giving is a solution too many problems, not just material things, but of oneself. I want my children to learn how fortunate they are and that our world is a wonderful place. They must learn that sometimes, we have to reach out and help, for no other reason, then, to know that we can make a difference. That gift of making a difference is what we receive back.
Africa is a place with so much potential. It is a place of history, culture and beauty. It is a land that holds the keys to many doors of opportunity. It might just take many to help access those keys. My sincere hope is that with the renewed movements of the world’s attention to the problems in Africa, that soon those doors will be opening. All those who have been waiting for so long can walk through the doors and find a better life and future.
I am going to Costa Rica at the end of this month on a Youth Leadership Institute assignment. I hope to have as an enriching experience, as Africa. I promise to keep those interested posted on that trip. I will also keep you informed what is going on in my efforts to make changes in the world in which we live. So see you soon!
