A year has flown by since I moved to Kansas City, MO. and I kept hearing of this gem of a town, just North of the Missouri River. Known for their microbrewry, cheese, and quaint atmosphere situated by a popular state park. It didn't take much to convince my girlfriend to take the day off and join me for a hike and a little expedition.
Taking a 45 minute drive from downtown Kansas City, we aimed our sights on humble Weston, Missouri.
Now, I myself have not had too many chances to branch out into the Great Plains so I was excited to to ditch the city for a while.
We loaded up the "Gremlin", Jaclyns Brussels Griffon, and hit the road with the intention of landing in Weston Bend State Park for a midday hike.
After a few setbacks, inclement weather, and a miscalculation or two we reached our goal.
The park lays along the Missouri River and offers a great escape for those itching to flee KC proper. Eight hiking trails, secluded camp sites, and low noise pollution you could easily spend a weekend actively lazing around or bicycling to downtown Weston.
With limited time and

Nearly the entire town can be caught by taking two photographs. rumbling bellies we tore through the Paved Bicycle and Harpst trails with lunch on our minds.
From the park we set out to O'Malley's Pub. I'm not so sure of the relation shared between Weston Brewing Company and the pub, however, I came across a sign reading 1842 as the year the brewing company had been established! What could be more inviting than 170 years of service?
No first timer should get away without ordering the beer flight; Six glasses, at 5 or so ounces a piece, of Weston Brewing Companies most popular brews. From a light Cream Ale to one of the most robust Stouts i've come across with undertones of coffee and cocoa and everything between. Exhaustion or dehydration... maybe i'm simply looking for an excuse to admit shooting each and every glass withing a matter of two minutes. The details have escaped me, though I do recall the pleasure each brew brings to the table. A real treat for those seeking phenomenal hand-crafted microbrews.
On to the menu. Before making it through all our options infatuation kicked in; "The O'Malley", a toasted marbled rye sandwich stuffed with corned beef, swiss cheese, and a house

And the other half made slaw. My indecisive nature took a back seat as I committed 100% to this glorious grub. To this day, i'm still caught off guard as my mind wanders to that savory dish. So what i'm trying to say, is simple, get yourself a round of O'Malleys finest beers and a robust corned beef sandwich. I promise satisfaction. The same can be said for the Fish and Chips as well, mainstream Irish, a classic. Washed down with a bold stout. Jaclyn took this route. So we split our dishes 50/50 and fought over who got the last French Fry. Sudden death, rock, paper, scissors, and I found myself gypped out of a fry. Foiled again!
No worries. We trek the one block to Downtown Weston to discover that which shops weren't already closed were then in the process of closing. Ah, we should have sen this coming. Again, no worries, a great excuse to get back out there. A handful of antique shops, old fashioned diners, a winery, and there seems to be a bed and breakfast to suit every visitor.
I look forward to my next trip out to the little unpretentious town North of Kansas City.
Weston Tobacco
Entering the business we were greeted by the proprietor as he was handrolling a cigar. He claims to have been taught the trade by a Cuban native. Until then...
