Grand Teton NP to Minneapolis

Day 59.....

Since our last update, we have driven, in only 3 days, over 1100 miles through Wyoming and South Dakota to Minnesota. Along the way, pretending to be patriotic Americans, we stopped at Mount Rushmore to view the giant heads of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson & Washington. We also made a lengthy stop in the Badlands, a strange yet beautiful sight and home to the movie of the same name. It was also home to numerous Rattlesnakes which meant Angela was unwilling to stray too far from the road.

We finally arrived in Bloomington, just outside Minneapolis, to stay with Martin's cousin Marianne, her husband Michael & baby Maxwell, who were the perfect hosts! It was so wonderful to sit on a comfy sofa and have a proper cup of tea. Also, Martin even had time to have a true American haircut: A Crew Cut! See our next blog for the results!

Anyway, as a break from our old routine, we have passed on our writing duties to resident journalist and guest blogger, Marianne:

"After so much activity, it was time for Martin & Angela to have a pitstop in Minneapolis. Our nine-month-old son Max soon put any plans for rest and recuperation on hold by keeping everyone on their toes. A sign of things to come (!), Martin and Angela passed their parent training with flying colours, teaching Max how to come down a slide and spot birds! (still want four, Angela?!) Martin, it seems, is quite the bird spotter these days, and so we indulged his hobby by visiting several lakes (as if they hadn't seen enough!) where he communed with his feathered friends while the rest of us got savaged by mosquitos.

Angela's birthday gave me a great excuse to put balloons up and buy chocolate cake (you should see Martin's door-stopper slices!) and so we all celebrated in style. Such a shame they couldn't take the cake with them.

Some retail therapy was also in order so we visited the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the States and possibly the world! Mum, they did better there than you did, buying more than the pair of socks you brought home! We also managed to squeeze in a trip downtown to the Brit Pub and a local nature center for some more bird spotting - even I couldn't miss the huge wild turkey that strolled by.

Happy Days! All too soon, it was time to wave goodbye and send Martin and Angela on their way to Chicago. Max was up for the road trip, but had to stay here, playing with his new fluffy moose!"

Happy Birthday
Wonderful that you all met up, makes the world a smaller place. Happy Birthday, Angela - one to remember! Hope you enjoyed your pint and steak'n'kidney pie in the Brit Pub. If you thought the Mall of America was Minneapolis' hot shopping spot, you should have visited Bloomington's IKEA and Toys'R'Us! Love to all, Brenda xx
