SeaTac airport
I tried so hard to get a clearer picture of the planes taking off while waiting waiting waiting for my flight.....the nose of the plane is the one that i will be flying on. I made it back home, but barely..........The day started out great, weather in Seattle was perfect, with no call for any bad weather. I knew the weather in Chicago would be bad and worsening, but I figured it wouldn't cause too many problems, cause I was scheduled to arrive at 2:30 and leave at 4:10. When I checked on the computer before we left for the airport, all was ok. what I didn't realize was that there was FOG. I guess it was horrendous in Chicago and causing all kinds of delays. 😞
So, we get to the airport in plenty of time. It was hard leaving my baby sister there..........
There is no line, I have everything printed out already and just have to give up my luggage, the security line was long, but was moving quite quickly. The gate was right next to the exit from security. I was ready to get on the plane and GO. Oops........8:25 take-off delayed until 9:05.......not good!!!!!! I asked at the desk and they said, all the connections should be OK in Chicago as long as we did not leave any later.
They finally let us on the plane. I
was flying Alaska air and I was quite impressed. The seats seemed bigger????? and they were not cloth. They looked like leather, but I am sure they were not. The best thing was that the plane was more than half empty. I had an aisle seat, with someone sitting in the window seat. Once they closed the doors, I looked around and saw quite a few empty rows. Whoo Hoo.....I quickly move to a window seat in an empty row. I was right over the wing. The only thing was that the seat did not recline, but once we took off I could move to the middle and take a little nappy.
Now the WAIT began and I started having anxiety attacks...............The pilot and stewardesses kept saying that the weather was so bad in Chicago that the flight controllers wouldn't let us leave. It was better this way than circling in Chicago. I guess that can literally be quite nauseating.
9:05 has more than passed and I am getting sick to my stomach. but we finally start taxiing to the runway, when we suddenly get lurched forward very hard. All of us looked at each other and I
ummmmm
Have you ever been on a plane and have the pilot SLAM on the brakes?????? Well, this is the reason our pilot did........Did not give me a good feeling about the rest of the flight :( feel like maybe I should not be flying today. I look out my window and see this HUGE JUMBO British Airways Jet come cruising in front of us to their gate. All I could think about is that we are full of JET FUEL !!!!! Someone was not paying attention..............
Then we get to the end of the runway, ready to take off when we pull to the side and the co-pilot announces we have to wait another 10 minutes or so to get the go-ahead from Chicago. I don't even know what time it is by now, but I know it is too late........for my flight to Detroit.......
Once we do take-off, they announce that we won't get to Chicago until 3:45 or so........Other people on the plane are in worse shape than me, since their connections are at 3pm.
They come around with food (have to pay).....thank goodness I made some sandwiches !!!! 😊 with my oh so tasty Deutsche Salami and Aufschnitt. The German butcher shop we found had the best meats, and talking the the ladies was fun too.
The gods were on my side....there was a stronger than normal tailwind that
Finally taking off
over an hour behind schedule........let's hope the Chicago flight is delayed or I'll be screwed and spending New Year Eve in Chicago O'Hare airport was pushing us along. We were supposed to be at the gate at 3:30 now; enough time for me to get to the gate, but what about my luggage???? Oh, well if not, I can always make another trip to the airport to pick it up, but my Leberkaese will be smelling by then. (I brought a German loaf and Veal Bologna in my luggage) 😊
I packed up my stuff and moved as far up as I could to get off the plane 1st to RUN to my gate, which I had no idea where it was; they said to ask at the top of the ramp. We don't get to the gate till 3:45...........so I put on my heavy winter coat (which I never wore and wouldn't fit in my tiny suitcase), strap on my HEAVY backpack and my purse and I get 3rd off the plane.........At the top of the ramp, they tell me Northwest is in terminal 2, but they do not know times or gates. I do not know where we were; I was just hoping that it was close........
WRONG !!!! I am running and fast walking thru O'Hare airport sweating my
Mt Rainier
The only way I could see Mt. Rainier is from the airplane above the clouds. You can see that it must be a very impressive sight if it towers this high up in the sky ass off. I actually think I was the furthest I could possibly be....... 😞 I finally find a board that lists my flight and it says it is on time. #$%!^(MISSING)
I run some more and the gate is at the END of the flipping terminal. I get there and I am about to die. BUT, it is 4:05 and the plane I am supposed to on is NOT EVEN THERE YET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, I did not take off on time. I think it was at least an hour behind when we finally took off. It was really freaky sitting in a crowded plane with pissed off people who have had flights cancelled and connections lost and have a truck spray you down with de-icer !! They sprayed us at least twice and still we sat. it was snowing and blowing and dark. No thank you. I don't think I have ever flown in the winter before......... Not fun.
As you all know, I landed in Detroit safe and sound.... YEAH !!!
It was so nice to be home with my hubby 😊 😊 😊 I missed him.
It was a nice trip;
The Cascades
The horrible dreaded Cascades; much easier to cross sitting in an airplance !! :) one that won't be soon forgotton. Lots of stress, but lots of good memories.
