Great Life-long Friends
JingJing, Me, Lauryn, and Jessica at out final wine night. I was waiting on my visa and Fulbright. Days were ticking by slowly and I needed to get away. So I decided to commit to taking my bff out for lunch on her birthday and seeing as many of my Ann Arbor friends as possible in the process. I rented a car (with a little help from my mom who actually has car insurance) and Ava and I left early Friday morning to hang out in Ann Arbor for the weekend.
Friday was great! I had a final wine night with my typical crowd at JingJing’s house. It lasted until 2 a.m. because none of us wanted to leave each other. Great, great times with lots of laughs and the common bond of our MATESOL program. Also, I received an email congratulating me for making it through the first round of my Fulbright process! My application has been sent to South Africa for final approval. I’m hoping and praying that I get accepted and can go to South Africa in December 2014.
Ava and I took Barbora (the student from Hradec Králóve University) to an ice sculpting festival on Saturday. It was nice to talk with her about the

Thank you Clarissa for making this! Czech Republic and I am hoping to see her again while I am there. Sunday was the day Ava was waiting for. She finally got to see her friends and I got to hang out with my “mommy crowd”. I hope that the kids can write to each other and stay in touch since they are all such great friends.
Ava and I left early Monday morning for Lansing to see Sarah on her birthday. That lady had the crazy idea that we should visit a place she claimed was for making crafts. It turned out to be a place to paint ceramic items. Ava painted an angel and a mug. Sarah painted a vase and I painted a mug for her as a birthday present. I think that we all enjoyed it. Hopefully, Sarah will come up for a visit and bring Ava’s things before we go. It would be nice to see her again too! We’ve been friends since we were ten and eleven and I adore that woman. After three hours of painting, we went out for lunch and said our goodbyes.
My last stop was a visit to Tim and Mary Kaufman’s farm in

Briarwood Mall Photo St. John’s. I hadn’t visiting them since Ava was 9 months old and I was really excited about it. They are the parents of one of my college roommates, Anna. After dinner, my mom called to tell me that there was a bad storm throughout the top half of the state, and that she didn’t want me to drive home until the morning. My brother also asked me to stay. Since the Kaufmans said that we could stay over, we were able to enjoy their company for the evening and were served amazing farm fresh eggs in the morning.
The roads were great until I was an hour from home. I felt like I was back in the same situation as when I moved home. While the trees were beautiful with their snow covering, the snow on the roads definitely caused me to slow my speed. It took a while, but I was able to get home safely. I actually took video of parts of the drive, both on the expressway and on the dirt road leading to my house. Enjoy!
