The film - A Dangerous Method
Hi All,

So I thought I'd share with you a couple of bits of information that has really struck me...

Firstly, how costly it is for patients to be here. This is a quote from the website:

"Austen Riggs offers a range of programs, from the initial six-week intensive evaluation and treatment phase to other residential day treatment and aftercare programs. Fees range from $1,190/day at the highest level of evaluation and treatment to $220/day for aftercare. While the total length of stay can vary, individuals are strongly encouraged to stay for the minimum period of six-weeks of intensive evaluation and treatment, and a pre-payment of $47,000 is required on the day of admission. This pre-payment covers most of the cost of the evaluation and treatment phase, depending on program admitted to. There is also an admission consultation fee of $1,200. The average cost per day for someone who stays several months and is able to access the step-down programs is about $800/day."

Wow!!!!

Secondly, John Kerr, the author of the book which was turned into the Keira Knightley film 'A Dangerous Method', is the Erikson Scholar at Austen Riggs -and he works in

The Author - John Kerr
the office next to me! And I've been offering wild 'psychoanalytic' interpretations all this time, whilst sat right next to him in meetings! Exciting though - his mind is fantastic, plus he's a lovely man.

Anyhow , hope all's well and spk soon

Update
Hi Jon, The Austen Riggs Centre seems very impressive, and also expensive. But if treatment there is successful, it is worth the expense because it changes patients lives for the better. The last two days in UK have been warm and dry. Yesterday evening was very still and pleasant, so I cycled to Bath, arriving back home at 9:45pm. I saw a fox on the cycle path near Bitton and cycled through clouds of midges, but it was not as exciting as sighting a bear! Today is back to normal; cloudy with some rain, and I think it will stay overcast at least until the weekend. I spread some lawn feed on bank holiday Monday, so the rain will help it to soak in. Judging by your photographs, the weather seems nice and sunny in Massachusetts. Best wishes, Dad
