The Radon Crew with Special Needs

So here is what's happening:

The most stressful part of our move is over. The moving crew was here and burned through all our belongings in about a day and a half. After we fought a battle with ourselves over what to keep and what to throw away, we managed to bring (I estimate) 7-800 pounds of stuff to the town dump. Now all our belongings are in the moving van, except for a small fraction in our own mini-van. And we're still married!!!!



The final resolution of the radon problem was not very satisfactory. The radon crew arrived as promised on Tuesday after driving up from Fall River. They looked at the house and announced that they needed a"special tool" to bore a hole in the brick wall on the back of the house. Don't know why this was a surprise to them, since we told them in advance about the construction of the house. At any rate, they didn't have the tool with them, and they couldn't come back until next week ("When is your closing date? This Friday? Oh... sorry about that.") They tacked on additional $300 for the use of this tool (!!??!!), and drove back to Fall River.





This whole debacle resulted in some negotiations between our lawyer and the buyer's -- they finally agreed to go ahead with the closing as scheduled, and we will put the money in escrow until the job is done and the radon is mitigated. (Have we been scammed or what?: Oh well, if that's what it takes to sell the house and get on with our lives .....)





So, we're back on schedule. We will drive down to Fall River ourselves on Thursday to visit with Aunt Mary and Uncle Paul. Then attend the closing at 9:30 AM on Friday in Needham. Once the deed has been transferred, all the checks written and the money wired to our account, we'll be hitting the road south and then west. YeeeHah!
