In total there were about 10 of us who ventured out into the wild side of Transvestite entertainment. Coming from Blackpool it wasn't the first drag show I had seen (I'm not saying I've seen hundreds though - don't want you getting the wrong impression:-). One of the guys (Paul) from London was decidedly nervous and had never encountered anything like Becka Da'Bus who certainly did look like a back of a bus, he was around 6 foot 5 - 18 stone and had the scariest make-up on I'd ever seen - the trannie not Paul:-) .
The acts were "rewarded" by the audience with dollar (sometimes higher denominations) bills which were stuffed into unusual locations!! Obviously my bills and hands stayed securely in my pockets:-).
The star of the audience was Neville who was 90 years old and never missed a show!!
The next day I was off to Geek heaven - the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) I
Stata Centre MIT
Designed by Frank Gehry was hoping that they would appreciate my atypical intellect and offer me a scholarship. The campus was still closed for the holiday though, so I'm back at my desk being unappreciated:-) MIT for those of you who don't know is where all the geniuses go to study science and technology - Sheldon from the Big Bang theory studied there as well as a third of all astronauts.
The grounds at MIT housed some fabulous pieces of sculpture including Henry Moore and Picasso but the Stata building eclipsed them all (see pics). After wandering round the MIT campus I met up with Ann for a wander round Harvard (I can't believe the Harvard Libarary hold some of Shakespeare's original books!).
In the afternoon we visited the the New England Aquarium which was good fun, my favourite display was the jellyfish I don't normally see them up close as I'm swimming in the opposite direction.
On my last night in Boston I frequented some of the sports bars to watch the superbowl playoffs - Samuel Adams is a fantastic beer by the way - the lager in general in the US is far better than the crap you get
in English pubs - which I had to take advantage of. And in the last bar I was in I met a lovely young lady originally from Bosnia-Herzegovina and when I asked her what she does for a living she told me that men pay her so that they can lick her feet - I told her I work in IT Security!!! - this didn't put her off though and she's invited me over to Sarajevo when she's back there - sweet.
The next day I departed the US shores for some serious jet lag back in blighty - what a fantastic holiday:-)
