Can not believe it has been 5 days since I wrote. HI is now just a marvelous memory. The looks on both my oldest daughter and granddaughter are burned beautifully in my memory. Our last morning was filled with laundry, packing and just hanging out together, staring at the Pacific from Jeanne's backyard and playing with the dog. Trip from Kona to LAX was uneventful, food was really good, having our own personal iPads made entertainment easy. Got to LAX 11:55 Pacific time, and went to a hotel within a mile of the airport to try and catch a few hours sleep. We were already beginning to feel the effects of flying west to east. Were only supposed to have about 4 hours sleep, but at about 2:30am we got a text that our plane was ... read more

Let the adventure really begin. Today was a red letter day. We had to drive about 90 miles to accomplish it, but we got our covid tests and are all negative. Thank you, universe. Had a lovely breakfast with Gerri’s friends before we headed home to laundry and packing. I took grandkids out for dinner and we had a blast talking about upcoming trip for Becky and new college semester courses for both. 6:30 am can checkin for flight to LAX and 11 am for flight to HI. Am much more relaxed and excited about trip now. Worrying about which test we would have to get and timing to get it was nerve-wracking. But type and timing verified today. Had results in less than three hours. We got to do it to ourselves and only had ... read more

Today is my grandson Andy's 21st birthday. I missed his birth because I was on reserve duty in Naples Italy at the time, but when I got home I spent 6 weeks with the family helping out. I am sorry I missed his birth, but I will always remember where I was on that day. He asked for alcohol as a birthday present, and since he probably never had a drink in his life, I thought that was kind of interesting. So he and his mom figured out some drinks he might like to try and they are going to present them one day at a time. No alcoholic blackout for this boy. Tomorrow I head to Allentown to spend 5 days with my brother. Of course that means I will have to hit the farmers' ... read more

The summer of 2021 is almost officially here. Yesterday my granddaughter graduated from high school. Big difference from when her brother graduated three years ago. Then entire families jammed into the field house at McDaniel College. This ceremony took place in an agricultural exhibit hall with only 4 tickets per family. Becky says it is called the cow palace. A big open cement floored building with giant fans slowly spinning and sprinkler heads that looked more like rain shower heads than commercial sprinklers. Giant signs announcing upcoming events instead of sports champion flags. Plastic wobbly chairs instead of bleachers. The weather held off until graduation was over and then the rains began. It wasn’t too bad at first, so we joined the throngs headed to the high school where photo op areas were set up. It ... read more

Made it here yesterday afternoon, just before granddaughter and daughter got home. Was granddaughter’s Instrumental music banquet dinner last night, so Andy and I went to Sakura’s Japanese’s restaurant for dinner. Never could figure out why they give so much food at those hibachi places. Appetizer choices included 2 shrimp or sautéed mushrooms. Andy and I both picked the mushrooms, me because my dinner was shrimp and scallops, him because he is allergic to shellfish. Before the appetizers though, Dinner included onion soup and a salad. I really like the soup, just a clear broth with bits of green onion and a mushroom. I am not crazy about sesame ginger dressing, it no real matter because things were just beginning. The fry guy started us off with what looked like over a cup of fried rice ... read more

Fifteen months ago I arrived back in the States from my first mission trip. I spent two weeks in the beautiful country of Ethiopia, and fell head over heels in love with the country, culture, and the people. I learned more about Jesus and the brokenness of all of humanity then I ever understood before. You see, it's easy to walk into a culture and see their poverty, but it's a whole different lesson when you recognize and define the poverty in your own life. I am so thankful for the lessons learned, the friends made, and the friends and family who supported me to go. I am forever changed. #growth I stepped off that plane fifteen months ago with a burning desire and passion to one day connect my home church, LifePoint Church, with a ... read more
