Dick was up first, and had long since checked the weather and filed his final flight plan by the time Judy saw him at breakfast. The mood was low-key and intently focused. The weather was no problem. The briefers asked us whether we were familiar with the special procedures for flying in the Washington DC area. "Affirmative," we each replied. "We're based there." We were ready to be home, and called our friends and loved ones to let them know it wouldn't be long now. Bob called up the Airport Cafe and told 'em to be ready for us. It took two trips to ferry all the pilots in the courtesy car to the airport. Bill took Dick and Ruth first, and Dick scurried like a man on a mission to get moving and off. Bill ... read more

HAD TO LEAVE EARLY Good luck to the rest of Dragon Flight 2008. Dan, Bill Davis and I had to turn back to GAI/FDK due to weather for the rest of the week. We were blessed with a very good tail wind, home from BPK to FDK, wheels down at 1930 local. Thanks to all on the Dragon Flight for the fellowship and experience. We will continue to follow your progress and keep you in our prayers.... read more

This is Judy, interim Recording Angel making entries on behalf of the Westbound Crew (remember, I'm joining this bunch once they get to the west coast...) So it really, really sounds like the gang is launching today! As of 10:35 this morning, the Cardinal has left, the Warrior 235 (aka "624", short for "N15624", its tail number) -- is firing up, the Cardinal has gone, and the 172 (aka "BA" or "Bravo Alpha", its final characters of its tail number) is headed for Mount Sterling, Montgomery County Kentucky -- KIOB. "A bit bumpy til we get into West Virginia," predicted Bob Hawkins when I spoke to him on his cell a few minutes before takeoff. Wish 'em luck...and...May the Fourth Be With You!! JB ... read more

Time to spare? Go by air... Now you see the true nature of the adventure. If you watched the video of the flight briefing in the previous entry and weren't that sanguine on the prospects, your instincts were prescient. As you can see from pilot Janice Templeman's reflections, in the attached video from Thursday night, she is among those who heartily supports this view! Bob Hawkins wrote: "For those of you who did not get up at the crack of dawn to only to be disappointed by the weather - well there is always tomorrow or maybe the next day. I had the opportunity to talk with Larry Falls - who is now in Arkansas sitting out some really bad weather. He says that we made the right decision. Anyway, I’ve been tracking the weather and ... read more
