Bardstown to Cincinnati

Kentucky to Ohio...

Oh no, we are behind bars. Help!

How much fun can two people have? We are finding out. Here's more from the Great American Road Trip.

Today we had breakfast at our famous hotel, the Jailhouse Inn, in Bardstown, Kentucky. After breakfast, we got a tour of the facility. Turns out, this place was a jail since 1819. It was built with heavy limestone walls and looked impossible to break out. Only, once a couple of guys created a fake gun from soap and got away. We were lucky and just paid and left.

We decided to make another unplanned stop on the way to Cincinnati. We drove up to Louisville to the Churchill Downs. Neither of us had been there before and decide to tour the facility. It did not eliminate the race from our bucket list at all. In fact, it moved the race near the top! It looks like it would be so much fun. Sorry that this year's race was in the rain.

After Churchill, we decided to find a wine bar near the Ohio River and ended up at the River City Winery, in New Albany, Indiana. We had more lunch than was planned and purchased a bottle

of the local wine. We only had one glass during the lunch and carried the bottle with us. I'm drinking some now as I write.

After checking into our hotel, we took a short nap then decided on a drive around town to get familiar with Cincinnati. We chose Eden Park and glad that we did. It is a nice park overlooking the Ohio River. While admiring the view we spotted a riverside restaurant on the opposite shore that we thought could be good. So, we used our GPS and made our way there. It was nice to have a fish dinner adjacent to the river.

Now I'm back working to finish this blog. I always think of more to add once I publish but now I want to shut down for the evening. Goodnight friends.

Across the road from the Center is another collection of Rickhouses. If you don't know what they are you should look up. They store hundreds of barrels of bourbon. This is where we need to run in the apocalypse.

This screen shot captures a map of our planned trip. We are open to changes, however. We booked rooms only on the route north. Nothing on the way back.
