We pulled out at 9:30 into a cool, cloudy morning. It was 62 degrees. Yay! It would be delightful if we get this when we get home...at least long enough to unload Mufasa!
We drove through Cedar Rapids, Iowa and were amazed at the amount of industries there. We had seen a sign when we entered Iowa yesterday stating that they loved both their silos and their smoke stacks. I guess areas like this is what they meant.
Our first stop was at an Iowa Rest Area to hop on WiFi to post yesterday’s blog post. It was quick, quick! LOVE good WiFi.
A “chore” we had on our list was to mail a birthday card to one of my cousins. We plugged Post Office into the GPS and it sent us off at the exit to West Branch, Iowa. Who knew (besides everyone in Iowa I am sure) that West Branch was the birthplace of Herbert Hoover! It is a cute, very small town and it looks like its biggest industry is The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. This was really a serendipitous stop. We had seen the sign advertising the Library and Museum on the
interstate but had not planned to stop and see it. We are very glad that we did. Since it was Sunday there weren’t many people there and we were able to walk around the area and got a good overview of the Museum. We learned a lot about both Herbert Hoover and about that era of time. Hoover was a self made man who came from nothing to becoming a multi millionaire at a time that being a milionaire really meant a lot more than it does today. He and his family traveled all over the world following his work. At a fairly young age, he gave over his life to humanitarian works. After his stint as President he and his wife, Lou, again took on giving projects. Most interesting...AND we were able to mail the birthday card!
We left West Branch at 2:00. While we were at the Museum, we got an email from Steve B recommending that even if we had to go out of our way, we needed to see if we could find an Iowa Machine Shed and if we found one go to any manner of trouble to eat there. Luckily, there was one
just a few miles down the road from us in Davenport, Iowa where we had planned to go anyway. We went. We saw. We ate. I don’t want to talk about it. (Side note: it was delicious. We bought the Heartland Sampler, split it, and still have enough left over for another meal. Rhubarb Crisp came home with us. The last one you cannot blame on me. Just Saying... )
We left The Machine Shed at 3:50 and pulled down the road one mile and stopped for the night at 4:00. Our campground is Interstate Campground and it is, as its title implies, right off of the interstate. It is a well reviewed park and we are pleased with our site. It is level, and the power is good. The WiFi is marginal. It takes a long time to upload pictures and since we had several today, it will take some time to get this out. Tomorrow we plan to continue south and east. Please keep the temps at home cooler until we get there and unload. It would be greatly appreciated.
We drove 100 miles today.

Going in the right direction
Loved the pictures and that Iowa Machine Shed sounds like a great place and probably has all kinds of midwestern food that I grew up on. Just Sayin. Good deserts too I bet. Loved the pictures and you both are going in the correct direction. I will most likely be gone before you arrive home but hopefully will see you when my mom is in Tennessee. You need to listen to a Jacob sermon from 7/22 on website. Very good. We have cool temps today but you know it will get hot as soon as the sun comes out. Safe travels save my brochures we really want todo this trip in our new auto with panoramic sunroof.
