First entry to this blog, I am kind of an amatuer at this. My flight from Minnesota to Chicago took 2 hrs i think, then I had 2 hour layover at O'Hare. O'Hare is the hub of United Airlines. The pictures taken are of my jumbo jet plane. First time across seas and first time on a huge plane. The movies on my plane were She's the Man, Pride and Predjudice, 16 Blocks and the Sentinel. I had a seat next to the screen so that was nice. I couldn't sleep that much but at least time flew by decently. The food was horrible so I had malnourishment for over half a day. We also flew through the Arctic Circle then back down to Siberia. The air temp there was around -142F, I felt the cold ... read more

Ok, votes are in and for the majority that replied, it's SUNDAY, Sept. 3rd. Hate that some of you can't make that date, but I'm afraid we'd had that problem no matter what date we tried. We'll start at 1pm and hopefully the weather will cooperate for a warm, sunny day in the pool. Since we had SO much food last time, please only bring enough food for 8-10 people. We'll have the drinks, paper and plastic ware, and ice. Everyone remember to bring/wear a swimsuit and bring a towel. Don't forget the PICTURES too!!!! ... read more

I hope everyone has recovered from the jet lag! I just wanted to touch base about the reunion party. Cynthia and Mark Culmo have offered to host again, and the first time they can have a get-together is Labor Day weekend. That gives everyone enough time to get their photos in order! The next question is would you prefer Sat, September 2nd or Sun., September 3rd? Start time around 1pm again and since there isn't school or work the next day, it can until 10pm+. Please reply with your vote by this Sat evening (hold both afternoons until finalized!): Saturday or Sunday More details will come as soon as the winning date has been decided. Also, you will only need to bring food for 4-6 people! ... read more

Holy Shit! Chicago rocks! However, this could end up being the longest and probably most boring epic of all timeā€¦so I will try and keep it short and sweet. Unfortunately 3 nights was nowhere near enough time to experience all this fantastic city has to offer, so a return visit is already in the pipeline! In my humble opinion, the single most impressive quality about Chicago is the architecture; it really will blow you away. The most magnificent of buildings tower over your head at every turn, the sheer scale and drama of those around the central district will simply take your breath away. Notwithstanding the architecture, the bravado and ambition of those who conceived of creating a city of such impressive vertical proportions is truly inspiring. Chicago is clearly not a city to rest on ... read more

I'm leaving for India today, which means I don't have too long to write this, because I have to go pack. I'm setting this blog up so that everyong back home can track me and my sister as we travel through India. I'm sure it will be hilarious for you; I don't know what to expect, but that's the beauty of it, right? Anyway, I'll try to update this every time I stop at an internet cafe, so keep watch. I think I've figured out how to upload pictures onto this site, so hopefully I'll include those too. Everyone here have a great three weeks, and I'll see you on the other side! love Shan... read more

So, we finally arrived in the windy city. I know I promised a separate entry on the train trip, but that has to be when I've written something by hand first, to sort out the bits and pieces :-) Yes, the city is windy, but with temperatures around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which is around 40 Celsius (104 is 40 and we had that today), it's a bit hard to appreciate the hot wind :-) Luckily, our hostel is air conditioned, as is most of this country, including the public transport in this town. I'm so relieved not to drive a car anymore! It was great fun, but to have to park in the cities and to be worried in the back of your head that something would happen to it was a bit of a strain. ... read more

Hello. Yes, I'm still alive. This will be the end of this edition of the travelblog. As it turns out, my pictures from my first few days on the Croatia coast cannot be salvaged so this is officially the last time I will be updating both the writing and the pics. Don't cry. Travel update It's been a wild ride, that's for damn sure. After returning to Vancouver, I got a chance to briefly catch up there for 8 days, with both friends and work. I remembered instantly why I want to stay there forever. But after those brief 8 days, I moved to Chicago a week ago. After a week of work, the weekend has arrived so I've finally dumped my final pics before I mail the camera back to my friend in Montreal. I'll ... read more
