Pierce The Veil
"Bulls in the Bronx" Salutations my kitten bats!
It's good to be back after a (very short) well needed Spring Break; however, if you ask me, this year hasn't had much of a 'spring' yet. The weather had been erratic and we'll get all four seasons in a week and sometimes even in a day. As for my break being rejuvenating, that's a lie. My break was very hectic: I went to a concert the Friday we got out, cleaned for Easter on Saturday, cleaned another house for Easter on Easter Sunday because we had to move it, cleaned the house in general, went to a friend's house to make brownies on Wednesday, went to talent show practice at another friend's house on Thursday (we're singing the Misty Mountains song from the Hobbit), and then spent the last three days of break cleaning and taking care of my family who got sick (everyone was sick except for me). There was almost no time for sleep, which is something I desperately need being a chronic insomniac, but, with all things said and done, it was still a good break nonetheless.
On Friday, March 29th, my best friend (Soledad) took another friend (Vianney),
Pierce The Veil
"A match into Water" my boyfriend (Javier), and me to a Pierce The Veil concert in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a really long car ride, almost an entire four hours, and I selpt for about an hour on the way there. I really do not do well with long car rides, but I managed to survive. The concert started at 7pm and we barely just got there at 6:55pm. Soledad, Vianney, and I had to do our make-up in the car. It was an intresting experience, and I was pleasently suprised to know that my make-up came out fairly well (as for a rule of thumb, I usually do not wear make-up, but at events like concerts I like to boldly show my goth asthetics). The man at the front door quickly scribbled "M"'s on the back of both of our hands to show that we were minors under the age of 17 (but very close to the age of 17 also). We ran inside, washed up, and proceeded to push our way toward the stage. Vianney lead the way, being able to weave her way through the crowd even though this was her first concert, with Soledad, Me, and then Javi in
Pierce The Veil
"Tangled in the Great Escape" tow. We formed a chain link with our hands, but lost eachother when the first moshpit broke out with the opening performance of the band Issues. Soledad and Vianney were pushed all the way to the front of the stage while Javi and I were slammed to the left. To be honest, that was my first moshpit ever and I was quite terrified, but it was also exhilartaioning. TRUST ME, it was not my intent to get caught in a moshpit, not at all, but I am proud of my bruises.
After Issues was done playing their set, LetLive came on. During there set, Javi and I tried to make our way back to Sole and Vianney (we were five feet away from them at one point), but another moshpit spoiled our advance and pushed us right back to where we were before. With that, we gave up and enjoyed our fairly close view of the left of the stage (we were about 10/15 feet away). We avoided very moshpit that we coud throughout Mephmis May Fire's set and were quite successful for a while (they can spontaneously breakout, but if you stay away from the hyper-active concert goers
then you're in safer territory). It took Pierce The Veil about a half hour to set up and come on. As for those of you who don't know who they are, here is a quick summary: they originate from California and are a post-punk 'mexicore' band (mexicore os a term use to describe hispanic rock, but I do not fully understand it because just theur ethnictiy of the members is hispanic and the music is..well...post-punk and a little screamo), and they are highly inspirational (their album Collide with the Sky was entirely based off of stories that their fans had sent them). If you have never listend to them before, I highly recommend that you listen to their songs Bulls in the Bronx, King for a Day, and A match into Water.
Pierce The Veil was amazing to see in concert! They were engergetic, funny, and had a great sound. Javi and I had a perfect veiw of their leader guitarist and the leader singer when he came around that way. Because of Javi and Sole's ambiguous love for them, I knew several of their songs and could actually sing along with Javi to their songs. There is no
describing the amount of pure bliss the concert was. When they said jump, you jumped to their rythm. When they said scream, you screamed. When they said sing, you singed. We were just one massive body of a thousand humans who shared the same love for a band (and some loved the band more than others. Soledad cried when they came on. I believe that she was their biggest fan there). Pierce The Veil gave us 2 solo acoustic encores by the lead singer and then a third last one with the whole band. The concert got out around 11pm. We stopped at the nearest gas station and guzzled about seven water bottles. After that, I slept almost the entire way home with Javi holding my hand. I got home somewhere around 1:30 am. It was my third concert and probably the greatest. Thank you Sole for letting me go! It was something that I will always remember!
