I decided to do my Rihla on African American advancement in the united states. When they first arrived in america, blacks came as slaves who were forced from there countries to be used as laborers. They were treated as property instead of people. African Americans were not given the right to vote, obtain an education, or be openly religious.
As of today, African Americans have come very far in society. Barack Obama was the first African American to become president. There has also been integration in the united states so that African Americans can now have similar educational opportunities as other races

African American accomplishments.
1760: first known African American publisher- Jupiter Hammond
1821: first African American toehold a patent-Thomas L. Jennings(dry cleaning process)
1901: first African American invited to dine at the white house- Booker T. Washington
1910: first African American millionaire- Madam C. J. Walker
