Sometime this week, prison inmate Clarence Allen Rice was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. Due to a decision made by congress 30 years ago, and by human rights, Rice should have been given permission for an early release. However, due to paperwork complications, not enough time was given. The compassionate release program required more time to work out while Rice had only three months to live. By then Rice died and was never given the early release. This breaks the human right that promises the right to trial. Due to the flawed compassionate release program, Rice we never given an early release. I believe something should be done. By enforcing the compassionate release program, the human right that promises the right to trial would also be enforced.
