In the article people are debating wether or not Columbus day should indeed be honored as a holiday. Some people say that Columbus day should not be celebrated because of how he took over the island and how he made the Taino's slaves and took all of there land, and gold.

My reaction to this is, everything that these people are saying is true he did do all those mean and violent things; however, people should think of the question as to where would we be if he never discovered america? How would technology be different? and what language would we speak?

This connects to class because we have been talking about Christopher Columbus and the discovery that he made and the discovery that many other explorers have made.
