Piracy continues to exist nowadays near the Horn of Africa because of the high profits. The economy of the pirate community is actually doing quite well, specifically in Somalia.

When piracy first started, fishermen attacked big ships and took all the fish and charged a tax. However, now pirates are attacking larger ships and taking money and treasures rather than fish.

In Somalia, many authority figures created a Puntland Maritime Police Force. This, unfortunately, failed and now there are many more people joining piracy. On the other hand, the European Union attacked pirates through air and land instead of only seeking them out through sea. This was a very good plan because pirates are only able to defend themselves if they're on water.

I don't think that piracy is ever justifiable. There is not reason to steal what is of another person, no matter what it could be.
