RIHILA #19: Day of the Dead

1. Day of the dead is when people, back in MesoAmerica, wore wooden skull masks called calacas and danced to honor the deceased. Usually, the food eaten within that day is the deceased favorite food. When the spaniards took over, they tried to discontinue day of the because they viewed death as the end of life. Mesoamericans refused to to let their ritual die; therefore, rebelled against the spaniards. Mesoamericans viewed death as a continuation of life.

2. My reaction was I think the mesoamericans did the right to not let their ritual die becaus. If it is something important to your culture, you should not let anyone take that away from you. Also, the spaniards had already taken many things away so being gable to keep your ritual is absolutely right.

3. I think this connects to class because with what we are learning we are also learning that we cannot just let anyone step all over us just like the Aztecs and Incans.
