1. This passage was about Christopher Columbus and the controversy toward him. Many have argued that honoring Columbus every year isn't something that should be done because of the methods he used when encountered indiginous people. He was violent, forced them, and introduced disease that would have a long term affect on those people. People are questioning this and on Christopher Columbus day there are protests trying toget ride of the holiday.

2. My reaction to this was to be surprised because I never really took the time to think of the wrong he was doing when he was enslaving the natives and forcing them to convert to his religion. Looking at it now i realize what others are arguing about. He did discover but did so in a violent manner

3.This connects to class because we are learning about Columbus and his voyage to the Carribean and about how he treated the natives. He took them to become slaves and treated them harshly when they were welcoming to him.
