This portion of the BDR through the Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forest is well known as the most difficult, the most scenic, the most historic -- and the route most prone to fires. It follows an old Nez Perce trail through the Clearwater mountains from the valley of the Bitterroot River to their lands in what is now Western Idaho. Lewis and Clark took advantage of the trail in September 1805, two hundred and sixteen years ago. They walked the ridge in September, the same time of year as I was there, The journey through the Clearwater mountains is referred to as one of the most difficult sections of Lewis and Clark's entire journey, mainly because it was all on foot. idaho*. haha i know...but really who could have known what a wonderful place it is. guiding was fun but the people and the place were what really made it. quote of the summer: "we are all alone, but we are looking for people and places so we are not lost." the west is full of beautiful, enticing places that make me want to shout that THIS is America. the "wild west" so silly that Texans consider themselves cowboys and country when texas is dominated by sprawling city. control that and then we can move on because we are losing our wild and our spirit becoming trapped by barbed wire and no public space. . After two nights in a hotel room we are thinking that we could get used to this! We just haven’t had any luck finding a campsite that has powered sites (we have to charge up the computer somehow), hot showers and most importantly is not right next to the main road!! Today was another clear morning - we got started a little late as we were working on catching up with the blog!
