Today started really early with the kids up not long after 6. We suspect it was from their anticipation of going to the Palouse Ice Rink to try some ice skating and then watch Uncle Cheston's adult league hockey game. We first had some donuts for breakfast and headed to church at Christ Church lead by Pastor Douglas Wilson. The service went as well as can be expected for two kids who aren't used to having to stay in the service with us. We enjoyed the liturgy of a more formal church. We stopped by the Walmart again and got some Starbucks to bring back to the house as a treat. We all had lunch and hung around the house for a bit before Rosie went down for a nap. Tory took time to rest too when the boys all went to the ice rink. Nathan was equipped with all of Owen's smaller/older hockey gear, including a San Jose Sharks Joe Thornton jersey, and we headed for the ice rink.
At the rink, Owen motivated Nathan to overcome his nervousness. He really looks up to him and he's a great example of a good boy, so Nathan wanted to try
ice skating as soon as he saw Owen in all his gear and helmet get onto the ice. The rink had kids' ice skating helper/walkers that Nathan used while Uncle Steve and Uncle Cheston pushed him around the rink. Owen even got a turn pushing Nathan and you couldn't get the smile off their faces. Next, Uncle Cheston played a hockey game, but first, the Zamboni cleaned the ice, definitely the highlight of Nathan's ice skating experience. Cheston scored 2 goals and had 2 assists and was probably the best player out on the ice! Kat, Tory, and Rosie came and got to see the game too, while Steve and Owen played some hockey with a tennis ball off the ice.
After the game, we went back home and got ready to go to Chet and Kat's friend house for dinner, Tim and Sarah Mortimer. They have 3 kids (Elliot, Grace and Kate). They attend the same as school as Owen and are his good friends. The Mortimer family were all so friendly with Rosie and Nathan. Tim is a General Contractor and was building a home next to the small two-bedroom house they presently live in, so he
gave us a tour and even took Nathan and Owen up on his man-lift to the roof of his house. Nathan also got to sit and drive with Tim in a forklift. It's nearly impossible to think of all of Nathan's favorite parts of the trip but this must be in the top 5. All the kids had a great time playing games and laughing. Dinner was delicious and the kids seemed to all play well together. Rosie was infatuated with the legos and kept her occupied almost the entire time. We had a great time at their house and left as their 2 younger daughters gave us an Irish Folk Dance show with lots of tap-dancing before we went home for bed.
