Wine Tasting
Shay tasting two. Napa. After spending 2 and half months back at home (Florida), I decided to head out again. Jim's niece is having her wedding in Hawaii in August and we were planning on attending, so I figured I might as well just go out there early and spend some time on the islands. I found a really good deal on Kayak.com for a multi trip airline ticket (only $695), which enabled me to spend a week in New Mexico with my good friend, her boyfriend and her mother. Her mother and I are interested in buying some land there and one of her mother's friends had a hook up for a place for us to stay. We stayed in the guest house of this eccentric old rich guy. He was also selling plots of land. This guys father was a General in charge of Roswell when the alien was found and he was kind of blacklisted for outing the whole cover up. We had a good, if not trying, time touring around Albuquerque, T or C and Santa Fe.
After a week in NM, I flew to San Francisco for a week. I got to spend time with another friend that
recently moved out to Pacifica. Her boyfriend works at Lucas Arts in The Presidio and he took us on a tour. Other than the Yoda water fountain, no photos were allowed. I also spent time with my daughter.
Then it was off to Los Angeles for a week. I was there for two days then my youngest daughter and I drove to Las Vegas to meet Jim and Jimmie (my son) who road tripped it from Florida. Jimmie was on his way to L.A., where he was moving in with Kelci, who had been there since last August. Jim flew home (back to Florida) and Jimmie, Kelci and I drove back to L.A. I helped Jimmie and Kelci get set up for a couple of days, then I was off to Hawaii.
I arrived in Honolulu on May 2nd and I already had a place to stay that I lined up on craigslist.org. I found a couple who lived in Waipahu that wanted to rent out their 3rd bedroom. Tim was kind enough to pick me up from the airport. The house is on a big hill with a fantastic view of Honolulu from the backyard. Unfortunately, it
is far away from Honolulu and I have to take the bus, which is a two hour ride, each way. I needed to find a job during my time here, and the job I found is at the Waikiki Beachside Hostel working the front desk. Since the hostel was right in Waikiki, I decided I needed to get a place closer to work. Back to craigslist. I found a room only a block away from work. Woohoo!! I will be working 4-midnight so I will have all day for the beach and hikes around the island. The hostel is a travelers hostel so no locals are permitted to stay. We get so many people from all over the world. It is fun to watch the funny Aussie boys trying to pick up the cute little British girls. It is a very entertaining job, but also very busy. Time flies. I have been working 8-4 during training so we get all the checkouts as well as most of the check-in's. It will be interesting to see how it changes when I go to nights, when we have to enforce the 10 pm quiet ordinance. Since the hostel is only a block

Lucas Arts, SF from the beach, the guests (mostly kids 18-25) tend to want to be noisy and party later. We have a great lounge area that we shut down at 10pm.
So far, I love this place. It is hot, not as bad a Florida, and humid, also not as bad as Florida, but it is beautiful and there is so much to do. And the food......omg, the food here is so good. The Ala Moana mall food court is amazing. There is curry, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Mexican, more Japanese, Italian, more Japanese....get the picture? Only the best food court EVER. I went to K-mart today and there were cases upon cases of Spam (the state meat?) as well as huge sections of Japanese food. The department signs are in Japanese and English. It is like being in another country with all the benefits of being in the U.S. My mom is from the Big Island and I grew up eating spam (sweet and sour spam, spam stroganoff, etc..) and I always wondered why we were the only kids in the neighborhood that ate so much spam...now I see. While I was in the Waikele Center K-mart (the nicest K-mart

Going to do some ironing. The Wynn, Las Vegas I have ever seen), I bought a new black pair of "slippahs" (flip flops). Everyone here wheres "slippahs". It is rare to see someone in regular shoes.
