Mauna Kea
No lie, this is the view from their city dump. Here are the past couple of days: Yesterday we went to - ok bear with the spelling - Lapahoihoi (ok phonetically, lappa hoy hoy, that should help.) This is where a huge tidal wave wiped out a school full of children in 1946. The *most beautiful* place, i'm tellin ya... then again, how many *the most beautiful places* have i written about so far?? The day we were there the water was so wild, like on the verge of tsunami. No i'm kidding, there was no tsunami action goin on. But Kathy told me this is where everyone comes to swim, like little 2 yr olds swim here. I'm looking around and there's giant rocks in the water and 3498730 foot waves and there goes baby jim floating by. Well not
floating by, that's a bit morbid, yeah? Anyway. Thiiiis water, as opposed to all the
other water from the same ocean i've been seeing my whole trip, lol.. is soooo blue. No, really, it was the same color as everything else i've seen. But it was soo clear and we were standing up so high you could see straight to the bottom. I have pictures from there on David's camera,
shark.. bush?
We dropped off Malia and i looked at her neighbor's bushes and coulda sworn a saw a shark. Kathy said for halloween, they stick a witch in its mouth. Hawaiians have lots of free time, you see. but i'm hesitant to post them because my butt's wet. Mm i guess that needs explaining.. i climbed the rocks as far as i could go without like tumbling in the ocean and a wave totally just crashed against the rocks and.. me. So that's why my butt is wet. So now maybe i can post the pictures with no shame. Maybe just a little. lol you'd swear i'm on something tonight, right? Oh but the whole point of this place is the tidal wave. Apparently, had the wave come 15 minutes later, school would have been over and nobody would have been killed. But you know how the water recedes right before a tidal wave? Well this is what happened, and the teachers saw all the shells and told the kids to go out and collect them... and not too long after, of course the wave came along. So they had boards everywhere with newspaper clippings and pictures of all the students and teachers who died... one teacher brought her newborn baby for the first time... The graveyard was nearby as well. The whole time we were there we saw this little man cutting down like small bushes and
Waimea's nature park
An area of the nature park fruits and whatever he could find.. just as we were leaving we saw him burning it in the middle of the graveyard and doing some kind of ritual. I dont think i mentioned this before, but a lot of the natives here are really absorbed in ..i dunno what you call it, but worshipping of the dead and spiritism? most places you go, mainly the beaches where there's lava rocks everywhere, they'll build mounds out of the rocks and place like flowers all around it... so you're in the middle of nowhere and there's this perfectly stacked mound of rocks, it's really strange. Yeah, so we don't bring those rocks home... Before Lapahoihoi, i took the kids to a nature park in waimea - supposedly there was a flood awhile back, so now there's like broken pottery scattered throughout the riverbeds, and the kids love to collect it. Every place has a story, right? "And then i went to the bathroom. In 1939 there was a
hurricane in this bathroom!". No, not really. After Lapahoihoi, we went to Tex -- famous for their hot, fresh malasadas - portugese doughnuts. These doughnuts, my friends, are the man. Collectively. So now you
Spaaaam
Hawaiians live on this stuff. got the Pre-Lapahoihoi, the Post-Lapahoihoi, and the famous Lapahoihoi experience, in no particular order.
This morning i got my incidental VIP phone call from krystal which happened to be just before i had to wake up for service. They fed me soooo much food ahead of time so i wouldn't pass out, lol... yesterday i skipped a meal and walked around like roadkill that made it. Kendra and i were at one door for like half an hour, of course, after the lady convinced us her dog wasn't going to eat us... but yeah, everyone is like that here... they love visitors, and they'll talk to you forever if you let them, i love it. We KFC'd it for lunch with Malia, one of Brittany's friends and then picked up some things for dinner - we made beef stew. Jake Shimabukuroo had a concert tonight - the ukelele player, apparently he is awesomeeee... so dave took 15 yr old isaiah with him, cuz isaiah loves to play. That's another thing i found interesting here, in school their electives are like ukelele and hula. How cool? Anyway i got to meet isaiah when he came over, and he played, he
Palms
Beautiful dayyy... Just disregard the giant glare on the window ;) was really good. They had a blast at the concert. While dave and isaiah were gone, Brian came over.. according to the scott's, Brian is the male version of me, so i could not wait to meet this guy!! So he came over and hung out awhile... yup, he's a lot like me, it's weird. He looks nothing like me, lol, but we totally have the same personality. He brought a baby zebra finch over for the kids because it's parents were like trying to eat him or something? It's soooo little, it's gray with a zebra striped tail and a bright orange beak. So yeah, he's just like hanging out in their living room. Brian told us funny stories and exclaimed his wishes to venture out into colder climates some day... he's never seen snow before, this guy. For now, he plans to move to Honolulu in May for work. Step closer to the cold, yeah? Brian is Jason's younger brother, the guy who took us out for breakfast the other day. They're a super sweet family. Tomorrow i think we're sleeping in... beyond that i don't know, but sleeping in is a must... i've done so little of
Me and Tom
Before meeting again. that so far :- Sunday Dave has a talk at the Kohala congregation, near Kona. After that, Kathy wants to take me to Kona for shopping and then there's a congregation party back in Waimea... so i'm looking forward to everything; should be a nice weekend. Mom and Dad, Dave has connections with this spa nearby - #1 on the islands... says he can get me an interview... worth a shot? 😊
Alright so i've said about everything there is to say. So i'll say goodbye to the 2% of you who are still with me. 😊 There better be no complaints that i don't write frequently!! Gah it's late, good night!

Go for it.In the meantime-- NO SKIPPING MEALS! grrrrrrr "That was not a healthy choice!"
