The ceremony
Finally! Our wedding ceremony! My fiancee Mathieu and I were due to get married on May 8th in Mexico. We took just over a year to plan this blessed event and had everything from the flowers to the photographers picked out. Thirty four of us were due to leave in a matter of days for an exciting two weeks of sun, surf and sand; we couldnt wait!
But then... SWINE flu happened. We hoped that it was just the media blowing everything way out of proportion and planned to go ahead with our plans. That is, until the Canadian government advised against Canadians travelling into Mexico and flights all got cancelled. So there we were, a week before our wedding date, without any wedding plans anymore. We were even on the news several times because of our situation! Thankfully, the company we were with (cant say who...) decided to give all of our group our money back. Now the question was, how were we going to pull this off? And where?
We were THIS close to just running off to Greece and eloping - but we really wanted our friends and family to still be able to share in our wedding day. So, where
would we like to go? I thought about it for a minute and said, KONA HAWAII! My dad offered a few other suggestions but I kept saying "No, I want to go to Kona." Within a few minutes we were on the internet looking into flights and accommodations. We found a place we really like so my dad got straight on the phone to talk to the hotel. Then he called the airline and asked how much availibility Hawaiian Airlines had for flights out of Seattle. LOTS they said (bad economy means good deals for us!) Within a matter of hours, we had 25 people booked on 2 seperate flights (one out of seattle, one out of Toronto) and condos for everyone to stay in! We couldnt believe how fast everything worked out!
Our next thing to do was try and replan a wedding. My dad is a registered minister, so that was the easy part. He would conduct the wedding ceremony and take care of the legal side of things. We found a photographer we loved online and gave him a call. He was only free on the 7th of May, but since we didnt really have a
Wedding Reception
Talking with "Ella" at the lu'au. She was a little girl who was obsessed with brides and thought they were real princesses! wedding date anymore we decided that would be the day. We found a beautiful spot on the hotel property with flowers and the ocean behind it. My mum ordered some flowers for me and the bridesmaids and lei's for all the guests and groomsmen. It looked wonderful! Plus, Ashley Milne was there to sing me down the aisle. He did a lovely Hawaiian version of "Somewhere over the rainbow." We knew we couldnt throw a proper reception together within a matter of days, so we decided to take everyone to a lu'au! As weird as it sounds, everyone said it was the best reception theyd ever gone too!
I remember the day of the wedding talking to Matt about how perfectly everything had turned out, especially considering the circumstance. A few days before we wondered if wed be able to get married at all, and now here we were in one of the most beautiful places Ive ever been to in my life. It was just perfect - like we were meant to get married there all along!
My next blog entry will have more to do with the travelling aspects 😉

So beautifully written!
This is so beautifully written, and the fact that I was there and experienced the concerns along with the prayers that went up during that time, it truly was a beautiful wedding! Our son's wedding! Never, and nothing to be forgotten!
