Wow! We slept so well, but we really have to get up and get going!
On our way to SC yesterday I had called my very favorite female cousin, Pam, to ask her to tell her mom that I would be in Simpsonville today but only for 30 minutes or so. I wouldn't have time to swing by, but wanted her to know I was thinking about her.
Sam, Linda, Lawson, Charlie and now Pam and aunt Patsy were all sworn to secrecy as we are going to just pop in to see my mom. Unannounced. Surprise!
Lawson, (who, by the way IS a hospice nurse), warned us "Your mom is 88....you're going to give her a heart attack!" I told him "She in an assisted living building - somebody there probably knows CPR." We're so bad.
It took about 10 minutes to get from the hotel to her building. When I knocked on her door, she called out asking who it was. "It's Jane" "WHO??" " Your daughter, me, Jane, and Jeff, too"Yes, she was surprised! Almost (but not quite) speechless. LOL
I haven't seen mom for a couple of years so it was too bad that we had
Jeff with his youngest brother, John
Jeff with his youngest brother, John such a limited time to visit. We did stay for about an hour. Most of that time I worked on her computer (yes, my mother is 88 and does email!) while she and Jeff chatted.
Eventually, we had to say goodbye and get back in the car.
This day is going to be a little different than you may have thought (surely you aren't surprised!). Last night Jeff figured out that if we took a little detour while driving back to Orlando we could stop in Warner Robins, GA to see his brother John and wife, Patty
Sure, why not?! It will only add about 90 minutes off track to our day and we've never been there.
Well, off-track is an appropriate description as one of the roads we ended up on was a one-lane gravel lane. It was the correct road, gorgeous, and only about 1/2 mile long. It was nice to not be on an Interstate highway; most of our route was on a Georgia Scenic Byway. Very pretty.
John was at work so we stopped there first. Jeff had called ahead (don't know if anyone where John works knows CPR and didn't want to find out!). We weren't there 3 minutes before Patty appeared. The four of us visited for about ten minutes, then Jeff and I followed Patty home so we could see their house. Then back to John's.
Jeff and I had ordered and were eating a medium veggie pizza (bad, vegan, bad!) while we talked to John. The 2 of us ate the whole pizza! And then, suddenly, it seemed, it was time to hit the road.
I'm writing this post as Jeff drives through north Florida (I drove from Simpsonville to Warner Robbins). We are listening to the East Village Opera Company LOUD on the car stereo (piped in from Jeff's iPhone).
Holy mackerel!!! A semi just cut us off - good reflexes on Jeff's part, but I'd better stop writing and "help" him drive!

That was a heck of a route! Glad you made it safely.
