Guard outside
We got into a bit of a stuggle over his weapon. We went into town again this morning before heading for Savannah GA. We just had to do the Fountain of Youth no matter how hokey it might be. First we had a nice breakfast at an authentic french crepe place. It was very good.
Then we went over to the fountain. See the pictures. It really isn't a fountain as much as a well these days. The water is a bit sulpher-ish but drinkable. Supposedly Juan Ponce De Leon really believed it would slow or even stop the aging process. It was probably the power of positive thinking but he did live well past the average age of the time. He lived to be 61 I think it was and then died of a wound even then. Who knows how long he might have lived otherwise but nobody really attributes it to the water but rather the belief on his part. He was all of 4' 11" but still the tallest guy on his crew we are told. He was also Columbus' first mate as another interesting piece of trivia. As you can see from the pictures there are neat peacocks all over the property.
Well that about
wraps it up for St. Augustine. As I write this, we have already arrived and set up at a park in Savannah.

White peacocks and Shenandoah
Hi Guys! A bit of trivia about the beautiful white peacock... Did you know other peacocks aren't attracted to them and so they generally lead a lonely, "loveless" life...or so Beckie was told when she did a stint at the zoo years ago. Also, if you plan to drive through (or spend time in) Shenandoah National Park, remember I'm an "athority" on the subject! :) I can share some thoughts on the northern Atlantic coast, too (north from NYC). You know, if you're in nrthern Maine at the right time of year, you can go way the heck out in the ocean and see puffins! It's a great adventure and I may still have a phone number... (Only a relatively few people can do this each year so it could be all booked up. Just a thought, anyway.) Continue to have fun and thanks for sharing!!! Judie
